We are now seeking an experienced, strategic, and values‑driven Board Chair to guide the governance of Live & Learn Solomon Islands.

About the Role

The Board Chair serves as the leader of the Board of Governance and plays a pivotal role in strengthening oversight, ensuring robust accountability, and supporting the organisation to deliver high-quality, community‑driven development outcomes.

The Chair will oversee the Board’s governance responsibilities, support strategic decision-making, foster strong engagement with stakeholders, and ensure compliance with relevant policies, legislation, and donor standards.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the long‑term resilience, wellbeing, and empowerment of communities across the Solomon Islands.

Key Responsibilities

As Chair, you will:

Governance & Leadership

• Lead the Board to effectively discharge its responsibilities in strategy, risk, performance monitoring, and compliance.

• Ensure effective conduct of Board meetings, including agenda planning, decision-making clarity, and constructive engagement among trustees.

Strategic Direction

• Guide the development, review, and monitoring of strategic plans.

• Support high-quality strategic thinking and ensure alignment to Live & Learn’s mission and community needs.

Stakeholder Engagement & Representation

• Represent Live & Learn in media, donor engagements, and government relations where appropriate.

• Support the Country Manager in high-level advocacy or strategic discussions.

Board Development

• Guide and support the ongoing development, performance, and effectiveness of the Board and its members.

• Ensure board members has access to induction, training, and development opportunities.

Risk, Finance & Compliance

• Ensure proper oversight of financial controls, risk management systems, and internal audits.

• Maintain adherence to Live & Learn Network Policies, Companies Act of 2009, Charitable Trust Act, Donor requirements and other relevant legal and compliance frameworks.

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate will have:

• Demonstrated leadership experience in governance, preferably in NGOs or community development.

• Understanding of Solomon Islands context and development priorities.

• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

• Strategic thinking and sound judgement.

• Commitment to Live & Learn values: responsiveness, accountability, transparency, respect, leadership, commitment, and representation.

• Experience in financial oversight, risk management, or public policy engagement will be highly regarded.

Term & Commitment

Appointment

Voluntary (meeting allowances provided); 2-years term, renewable under the organisation’s governance framework. Voluntary

Commitment

Minimum of three Board meetings per year, with additional strategic engagements as needed.
