Job Title: Manufacturing Technical WriterJob DescriptionThis Manufacturing Technical Writer role focuses on documenting complex fabrication and assembly processes, developing standardized work instructions, and creating visual production documentation for a high-mix manufacturing environment. You will spend significant time on the production floor observing operations, conducting time and motion studies, auditing engineering documentation, and producing SOPs, Visual Work Instructions (VWIs), and process training materials that support efficient, safe, and consistent production.Responsibilities
• Audit engineering drawings, 3D models, bills of materials, routings, cut sheets, and production documentation for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with current manufacturing practices. • Observe fabrication and assembly operations on the production floor to document detailed process steps, including cutting, bending, welding, balancing, and related activities. • Conduct time and motion studies using stopwatch analysis, MOST, MTM, or similar methodologies to establish standard work, cycle times, and labor content for various product configurations. • Develop, write, and maintain clear, concise SOPs, Standard Work Instructions, and Visual Work Instructions that support consistent execution of manufacturing processes. • Create or coordinate video-based process documentation and training materials to visually demonstrate correct methods, sequence of operations, and safety considerations. • Collaborate closely with production leads, operators, and engineering staff to validate documented procedures and ensure they reflect real-world practices and constraints. • Identify documentation gaps, process inconsistencies, and opportunities for efficiency improvements, and recommend updates that support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives. • Organize documentation, videos, and process data into a centralized, searchable library that enables easy access, version control, and ongoing maintenance of manufacturing standards. • Support manufacturing transitions, line moves, and process standardization efforts by updating documentation and ensuring alignment with new layouts, equipment, or workflows. • Escalate production or documentation risks that may impact quality, safety, or delivery performance, and work with cross-functional teams to address issues proactively. • Contribute to document control practices by ensuring that all technical documentation follows established naming conventions, revision control, and approval workflows. • Apply lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement principles when analyzing processes and recommending documentation or workflow enhancements. • Use CAD viewing tools, document management systems, and video editing software to review technical content, manage files, and produce high-quality instructional materials. Essential Skills
• Demonstrated experience creating SOPs, Standard Work Instructions, and Visual Work Instructions in a manufacturing environment. • Proven ability to conduct time and motion studies using stopwatch analysis, MOST, MTM, or similar industrial engineering methodologies. • Ability to interpret 3D models, mechanical drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), routings, cut sheets, and detailed manufacturing specifications. • Strong technical writing skills with the ability to translate complex fabrication and assembly processes into clear, user-friendly documentation. • Experience developing training materials, process documentation, or instructional content for production teams. • Understanding of fabrication and assembly processes, including cutting, bending, welding, and balancing operations. • High level of organization with the ability to manage documentation across numerous product configurations and variations. • Bilingual communication skills that enable effective collaboration and clear documentation for a diverse workforce. • Hands-on experience with technical documentation and document control in a manufacturing or production setting. • Proficiency in technical writing focused on process clarity, safety, and standardization. • Ability to work on the production floor, observe operations, and engage with operators and leads to validate procedures. • Attention to detail and accuracy when auditing engineering drawings, models, and production documentation. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Hialeah, FL. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
