About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Diabetes & Endocrinology department as a LAS Speciality Registrar (ST3+ level) from October 2026 to February 2027.

Diabetes and Endocrinology is a diverse speciality that offers integration between basic biochemistry, human physiology and practical medicine. It is a largely outpatient-based speciality that many doctors have limited exposure to early in their career, yet these are conditions that affect every spectrum of society. You will work with various patient groups such as young adults, pregnant women and the elderly population, as well as with many other disciplines and specialities.

The post would be ideal for individuals considering or completing IM3 training. Whether you are considering a career in D&E, just want to gain experience at better managing these diverse conditions or further hone your skills in GIM before commencing further training, this post is a unique opportunity to learn about the holistic multidisciplinary medical care. The post will build in opportunities for individuals to carry out audit, service improvement, research etc. based on the training needs of the individual and will give candidates a clear advantage over competitors when it comes to applications for specialty training posts in the future.

Main duties of the job

The clinical duties will include looking after inpatients admitted under the diabetes and endocrine directorate. Based on the level of the individual's experience, they will also be expected to review inpatient referrals to D&E, under the supervision of a dedicated consultant. There will also be a mixture of outpatient clinics, again dependant on the individual's level of experience. Appropriate training will be provided to enable the individual to take up these roles.

There is also a regular Acute General Medicine on-call commitment, including nights and weekends.
