Job summary
We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual to join our admin team, to carry out a full range of duties in order to provide an effective and efficient service for the Acute Medical Unit and Medical Same Day Emergency Care.
The role of the department is to provide high quality care to the patients and service users for inpatients and outpatients on the Acute Medical Unit and Medical Same Day Emergency Care. The units take direct admissions from G.P, Emergency Department and Clinic Referrals.
You will be required to work closely with all members of our Multi-Disciplinary Team to maintain service provision. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills, appropriately prioritise their workload and be highly motivated.
The admin service for AMU/Medical SDEC covers 07:00-19:30 7 days a week. The post holder will be required to work 2x 12 hour shifts per week on a roster basis, inclusive of weekends and bank holidays.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be required to work in 3 different roles covering AMU and Medical SDEC which will involve:
To provide an efficient and effective reception for patients attending the departments, directing and helping visitors and patients with enquires.To act as first line of contact for all telephone enquiries to the ward/unit, re-directing calls when necessaryTo ensure patients are appropriately received, admitted, transferred, discharged and where necessary make outpatient appointments, using the Hospital Careflow system (electronic patient record system)General administration duties such as filing, scanning, photocopying and tracking medical notesTo work closely with the multi-disciplinary ward team to maintain recognised standards promoting efficient ward management

Knowledge and Awareness Essential
Knowledge of windows-based computer packages. Understanding of the need for confidentiality. Awareness of Health and Safety requirement. Knowledge of the Healthcare/organisation environment.

Knowledge of Careflow system.
Qualifications Essential
Minimum of 3 Grade A-C GCSEs or relevant equivalent knowledge/experience.
Experience Essential
Previous customer service experience. Previous clerical/administrative experience. Experience of direct telephone contact with patients/clients and staff.Experience of working with staff at all levels.
Desirable
Previous NHS experience. Previous ward clerk experience.
