About this role

Job summary

Cardiology service is currently recruiting a assistant medical secretary to provide secretarial support to the Cardiology department.

We are looking for a secretary who has relevant experience of working with an office environment, who is self motivated, professional, friendly and positive attitude, able to work accurately under pressure to deadlines and is flexible in their approach. They must be able to use their own initiative and priorities their workload. Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Committed to providing high-quality administrative support that contributes to excellent patient care.

The role is 37.5hrs per week, Monday to Friday. Fixed term for 6months to cover maternity leave ending in March 2027.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Cardiology Department, ensuring the efficient day-to-day running of the service.

Support the Team Leader in managing Referral to Treatment (RTT) pathways and maintaining compliance with waiting time targets.

Receive and manage telephone calls, responding to enquiries professionally and accurately.

Maintain and update patient information using the Trust's clinical recording system.

Produce letters, reports, and other correspondence using Microsoft Office applications.

Process referral information and liaise with consultants, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals.

Manage a high-volume workload while ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and excellent customer service.

Essential Skills and Requirements:

Strong administrative and organisational skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

Accurate typing and word processing skills (RSA III or equivalent).

GCSE English (or equivalent).

Ability to work under pressure, priorities tasks, and maintain confidentiality.

Experience handling patient records and working within healthcare administration is advantageous.

Understanding of RTT pathways and NHS administrative processes is desirable.
