About this role

Job summary

This role within our Arthroplasty Surgery Team is intended for a medical doctor working at the equivalent of ST3 and will allow the appointed doctor to gain further experience in an orthopaedic setting along with providing an environment to increase publications.

This is not an approved training post and is fixed term for 12 months.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will be assigned to support specific consultants in the Arthroplasty Surgery Team.

The post-holder will:

?Participate in regular elective operating lists, gaining experience in primary hip and knee, and revision arthroplasty.

?Develop knowledge and skills in primary and revision arthroplasty, including management of bone loss, injections and other complex reconstructive problems, as appropriate to their experience.

?Undertake support to operative procedures with a graduated level of responsibility.

?Participate in the assessment and management of patients undergoing arthroplasty, including pre-operative assessment, operative planning and post-operative care.

?Attend regular outpatient clinics, including pre-operative, post-operative and specialist arthroplasty clinics, with opportunities to develop independent clinical decision-making under appropriate supervision.

?Participate in the management of elective inpatients, including ward rounds, assessment of post-operative patients and management of complications.

?Participate in the multidisciplinary management of complex arthroplasty patients, including relevant infection, radiology and other specialist MDT meetings.

Job description Job responsibilities

1. Support out-patient clinics.

2. Assist in theatre lists, with potential for access to other theatre lists to extend your experience in orthopaedics

3. Assessment of new patients, with consultant supervision.

4. Clerk admissions where required and be the primary responsible middle grade doctor for the day-to-day care of in-patients.

5. Attendance to ward rounds with senior colleagues and specialist nurses.

6. Discharge requirements for in-patients.

7. To assist with any other aspects of patient care as appropriate.

8. To support in surgical planning, and assist in clinic preparation and MDT duties.

9. To participate in audit and research.

Rota

Duties will be Monday to Friday with time flexibility required within a normal working day. The is no hospital oncall requirement with this post.

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training Essential

Full registration with the GMC at the time of appointment MB ChB or equivalent FRCS Orth

Experience Essential

Commitment to lower limb arthroplasty Evidence of experience in lower limb arthroplasty/ complex revisions demonstrated by a log book

Skills and competencies Essential

Evidence of commitment to lower limb arthroplasty as demonstrated through active participation in audit, research and CPD relevant to sub speciality

Desirable

Able to design and carry out prospective research Relevant publications and presentation in arthroplasty
