About this role

Job summary

The successful candidate will be part of a cohesive oral & maxillofacial team providing direct patient care. The post offers opportunity for outpatient consultant, minor operation surgery and general anaesthetic daycase surgery.

Main duties of the job

The OMF Specialty Doctors work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team to provide end-to-end patient pathway care including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of hospital-based specialist oral surgery care. The successful candidate will undertake direct patient in outpatient, minor operation and daycase settings in our Royal Derby Hospital and Queen's Hospital Burton sites.

We see on average 4810 OP appointments a day. We are the 4th busiest Trauma & Orthopaedic outpatients department in England - an average of 2077 per week. An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day - 3rd largest in the country. Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily. Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres. We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres. We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day. Job description Job responsibilities

Provide patient-facing specialist oral surgery care to assess, diagnose and treat patients who need secondary care level intervention. Working with the wider multidisciplinary team, including Oral & Maxillofacial and Orthodontic consultants to provide seamless patient care episodes and experience.

No on-call requirement is expected although there may be opportunities to be on the on-call rota or engage in occasional on-call commitments if the candidate wishes. This role propviodes the opportunity to learn how to independently manage secondary care level patients within a multidisciplinary care setting.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Eligibility Essential

BDS or equivalent dental qualification MFDS or equivalent Full GDC Registration, with a licence to practice, at time of application

Desirable

Dental Sedation qualification OMF experience at ST3/Registrar grade level

Clinical Knowledge and Skills Essential

Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in OMF or Oral Surgery

Desirable

Minimum 1 year NHS experience

Management & Administrative Experience Desirable

Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements relevant to the specialty

Teaching Experience Essential

Experience of supervising and teaching junior doctors and undergraduates. Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills

Desirable

Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to under-graduates
