About this role

Job summary

As a Senior Clinical Pharmacist in Acute & Emergency Medicine, you'll be at the heart of emergency care--working across the Emergency Department, Acute Medical Unit, Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), Frailty in-reach, and Urgent Treatment Centres.

You'll lead, innovate, and shape the future of medicines optimisation in emergency care, delivering expert clinical pharmacy services that directly impact patient outcomes at their most critical moments. This role blends advanced practice, independent prescribing, multidisciplinary teamwork, service development, and leadership--making it ideal for pharmacists ready to elevate their practice.

You'll be supported by fellow senior pharmacists and a Principal Pharmacist ACP, with development opportunities in:

Main duties of the job

Lead and develop pharmaceutical services across all Emergency Services Group areas.

Provide expert clinical pharmacy input during ward rounds, MDT meetings, and governance forums.

Independently prescribe to optimise care for acutely unwell patients.

Drive quality improvement initiatives and KPI reporting for acute & emergency medicine pharmacy services.

Deliver and develop specialist clinical pharmacy services for Acute & Emergency Medicine

Coordinate day-to-day clinical pharmacy activity across emergency care areas.

Applicants must be registered with the GPhC, have comprehensive experience as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting, and have a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Substantial post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting Experience working in the Acute & Emergency medicine specialty Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team Experience of working at pharmacy directorate level, including responsibility for financial reporting, developing and maintaining operational procedures, and supporting governance processes. Experience of supervising and coordinating a pharmacy team's day-to-day activities to ensure effective delivery of service functions. Experience working as an independent prescriber

Desirable

Evidence of leading quality improvement projects with successful outcome Evidence of publication in peer reviewed journals or at a national/ regional conference Evidence of participation in an outside group within pharmacy e.g. UKCPA

Qualification Essential

Pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Postgraduate clinical diploma or equivalent qualification Independent prescribing qualification

Desirable

Leadership qualification or equivalent Health assessment or Advanced Clinical Practice qualification
