Your Contribution As Team Lead, Legacy Sites, you will lead the safe, compliant, and sustainable management of Newmont’s Battle Mountain legacy site in San Luis, Colorado. This is an active water treatment site, and you will oversee water treatment plant operations and maintenance, environmental monitoring programs, site infrastructure, contractor performance, and community engagement initiatives. You will lead the site-based team and ensure activities comply with applicable regulatory obligations, operating requirements, and Newmont standards. The role serves as the local decision-maker and primary point of contact for regulators, community stakeholders, and other interested parties, helping protect Newmont’s reputation and fulfill its long-term environmental commitments.
As part of our team, You will
• Provide visible, felt safety leadership and promote a strong safety culture among employees, contractors, and consultants. • Lead the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the site’s active water treatment plant and associated water-management infrastructure. • Oversee treatment processes, routine inspections, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, sampling, monitoring, and operational recordkeeping. • Lead site activities to ensure compliance with environmental controls, discharge requirements, monitoring programs, permits, and other regulatory obligations. • Supervise routine site operations and maintenance activities, as well as non-routine projects and improvement initiatives. • Manage site personnel, contractors, and consultants to deliver work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with operational and business objectives. • Support the development of annual operating and capital budgets and monitor site financial performance. • Plan, schedule, and oversee routine and non-routine site activities, including plant shutdowns and maintenance programs. • Assist in developing contractor and consultant scopes of work and contribute to vendor selection processes. • Build and maintain productive relationships with regulators, community leaders, landowners, NGOs, and other stakeholders. • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance treatment reliability, operational effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and environmental performance. • Foster a positive, collaborative, and productive work environment while supporting employee development and building team capability.
Prerequisites for your success in this role
• Experience leading site operations, water treatment operations, environmental programs, maintenance activities, or related industrial field operations. • Experience operating, maintaining, or supervising an active water treatment plant and associated systems. • Knowledge of water treatment processes, water-management programs, process controls, sampling requirements, and related environmental technologies. • Knowledge of environmental regulations and compliance requirements applicable to mining, industrial, or water treatment operations. • Understanding of health and safety regulations and safe work practices. • Experience managing contractors, consultants, and field-based work activities. • Ability to develop work plans, prioritize activities, allocate resources, and oversee safe and effective execution. • Experience planning preventative and corrective maintenance for treatment equipment and site infrastructure. • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-management skills. • Proven ability to supervise teams, provide direction, and support employee development. • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond effectively to operational, maintenance, and environmental challenges. • Effective communication skills and the ability to work across multiple disciplines and stakeholder groups.
Your work environment
• This position is based in San Luis, Colorado, at Newmont’s Battle Mountain legacy site. • The site includes an active water treatment plant requiring ongoing operations, monitoring, maintenance, and regulatory compliance oversight. • The role is primarily field-based and involves working closely with site personnel, contractors, consultants, regulators, community leaders, and regional leadership. • Work may involve exposure to active treatment infrastructure, industrial equipment, outdoor conditions, and varying seasonal weather. • Occasional travel to other legacy sites or regional offices may be required.
Work Environment, Pay & Benefits: This position is based in our Denver, CO corporate headquarters, with flexibility for hybrid work. The base salary range is $86,500–$115,300 (reflecting market rates and your qualifications). The final base pay offer will be based on individual factors such as your experience, and skills – we do not ask for or use your prior pay in setting your compensation. You will also be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on company and personal performance.
