Iowa City Community School District: Special Education 1:1 Nurse/School nurse QUALIFICATIONS:
• Registered nurse with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in nursing
• Community health or school nursing experience preferred
• Evidence of strong organizational skills
• Demonstrated ability to work with people
• Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential
• Strong knowledge of the healthcare needs of children
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Health Services Manager in collaboration with the building principal. SUPERVISES: This position is not supervisory, though does provide direction and support to staff implementing health services. JOB GOALS: Provide direct and indirect health services to students and participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the school health services program to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child. Provide other services and supports that allow students to access the least restrictive environment in accordance with the DDSDP. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Provide 1:1 direct nursing care for a student 2 hrs a day as established in the IEP (this may include riding the bus and Extended School Year work). Will be assigned to a building, as a School Nurse, for the remainder of the day.
• Plan and oversee the provision of first aid and emergency care to the student on the bus route
• Assist the Health Services Manager where appropriate.
• Other duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 175 days/year - flexible employment options will be considered
