About this role

Reports To: Athletic Director Position Summary The School Bus Driver is responsible for safely transporting students to field trips, athletic events, and other school-sponsored activities. The ideal candidate is committed to student safety, demonstrates professionalism, and supports the mission and values of the school while providing a positive and welcoming environment for students. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely operates a school bus in compliance with all federal, state, and local traffic laws and school transportation policies.

• Drive students to athletic events, field trips, retreats, and other school activities as assigned.

• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus and complete required inspection reports.

• Maintain order and appropriate student behavior while on the bus in accordance with school policies.

• Ensure students board and exit the bus safely at designated stops.

• Report student discipline concerns, accidents, vehicle issues, delays, or emergencies promptly to school administration.

• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly bus interior and exterior.

• Keep accurate records of mileage, routes, inspections, fuel usage, and maintenance needs.

• Communicate professionally with parents, students, faculty, and administrators.

• Attend required safety meetings and training sessions.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding students and school matters.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

• Valid Texas Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements.

• Current Texas Department of Public Safety School Bus Driver Certification.

• Clean driving record and insurable under the school's automobile insurance policy.

• Ability to pass criminal background checks, fingerprinting, and all state-required screenings.

• Previous school bus driving experience preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Thorough knowledge of safe driving practices and defensive driving techniques.

• Ability to supervise students while maintaining focus on safe vehicle operation.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during emergencies.

• Dependable, punctual, and safety conscious.

• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and parents.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.

• Ability to climb bus steps and assist students entering and exiting the bus.

• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

• Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
