We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic paediatric nurse to join our Paediatric Epilepsy service in the position of Epilepsy Nurse Specialist
We are seeking an experienced children's nurse, with substantial epilepsy knowledge and experience, currently practicing at band 6 level or above.
We are looking for a candidate who will be visible and both patient and staff focused to work within this excellent team.
This is the perfect opportunity for a paediatric nurse who wishes to pursue a specialist role in Paediatric Epilepsy.
Main duties of the job
This role will be expected to act as a practice leader, managing own workload and work across professional, organizational, agency and system boundaries to develop services for Babies, Children and Young People (BCYP) with Epilepsy. This will include life-limiting and life shortening conditions.
To participate and contribute to networks, locally, regionally and nationally. The post holder will promote and facilitate excellent standards of care and contribute to the future development of the Paediatric Epilepsy services within the trust.
The role will critically appraise evidenced based practice and apply the principles of prudent healthcare, assessing and managing risk and proactively challenge others.
The post holder will act as key liaison between children's and adult's Services, Health Care Teams, Lead Consultant, Consultant Physicians, Out-patient nursing team, Senior Sisters and Nursing teams for paediatric and adult Units, Tertiary Unit teams and within the Children's Community and District Nursing Services, and Public Health Teams, in relation to epilepsy care.

To provide epilepsy specialist nursing advice, education, and leadership within the speciality.
To act as a source of expertise, advice and knowledge for patients, carers, and healthcare professionals .
To work within the multi-disciplinary team in the provision of optimal care throughout all aspects of the patients care pathway and in all clinical settings.
Undertake clinical competencies relevant to this specialist service to develop and demonstrate autonomy in advanced practice skills in the holistic assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for the cohort of patients within the specialist service.
Delivery of high-quality patient care, acting as nursing role model for nursing practice across the speciality and Trust.

Person Specification
Education and qualifications Essential
RSCN/RN Child Branch. Mentorship qualification or equivalent Level 3 child protection training Evidence of continuing professional development within specialty Relevant Degree in nursing or equivalent
Desirable
Master's degree or workings towards this. Nurse prescribing qualification.
Skills and Aptitudes Essential
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Experience of participation in service development and implementation of change Sound knowledge of the principles and practice of specialist care. Extensive Paediatric nursing experience, including working with children and young people Evidence of nursing epilepsy patients within the acute setting and management awareness A high level of communication skills, to include but not exclusively, mediation, negotiation, consultation, facilitation, presentation and training . Awareness of Epilepsy 12 Ability to manage change, both personally and as a facilitator. Computer literate: able to use MS Office packages and manage databases. Awareness of current NHS issues and pressures. Awareness of issues surrounding governance and quality initiatives. Ability to critically analyse and apply research to the clinical setting. Management/organisational/prioritisation skills. Ability to work autonomously and independently. Safeguarding children's experience and knowledge
Desirable
Ability to recognise the contribution of MDT staffing. Ability to lead change and innovations in specialist practice. Epilepsy PET course 1,2 & 3 (or working towards) Completion of the non-medical prescribing qualification
Experience Essential
Extensive Paediatric nursing experience. Extensive experience of working with inpatients/outpatients relevant to the speciality. Experience of teaching on formal and informal education programmes/conferences/presentations. Experience of working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Recent experience of audit.
Desirable
Experience of nurse led clinics. Clinical supervision experience. Experience in research.
