Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and organised Clerical Officer to join our busy Radiology Department at Colchester Hospital.
This post is fixed term / secondment until 6th March 2027, part time, 15 hours per week to be worked on Xray Beta Reception between the hours of 16:30-19:30 during the working week of Monday - Friday, subject to change or flex upon needs of the service.
In this role you will assist in providing an efficient, high quality, reception, clerical and booking support service to our team and patients.
As you will be dealing with patients and the general public, you must have a polite and empathetic telephone manner and be approachable. You will also need to have the ability to work under pressure to strict dealings with excellent organisational skills. You will work on your own initiative with attention to detail and have confident and accurate IT skills.
Internal applicants currently employed by ESNEFT will be offered on a secondment basis only, this must be discussed with your line manager.
Main duties of the job
You will be working as part of a team of staff who:
To rotate between reception and booking appointments as per the clerical rota, ensuring effective cover during times of sickness, absence and annual leave. To greet patient and visitors to the department, providing an efficient and courteous service, referring queries or concerns regarding patients and other visitors to the department. To book Outpatient/ GP appointments in urgency order, using EPIC. Ensure letters and any preparation are sent out in a timely manner. To communicate with patients and external departments via the telephone and face to face, scheduling appointments and answering general queries. To escalate any concerns regarding capacity to the Operational Co-ordinator, and expedite appointments and procedures to avoid breaching DMO1/ Cancer wait times. Ensure patients that have failed to attend or have cancelled their appointments are identified and re-booked according to departmental and trust policy.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
GCSE grade 4/C or equivalent in English and Maths
Desirable
NVQ2 in Customer Care ECDL or equivalent
Experience Essential
Previous experience in an office environment Proven experience working on a reception, booking appointments, waiting list targets. Competent keyboard skills to maintain a high quality, accurate and efficient service (keyboard/data entry) Experience of working with the general public
Desirable
Previous experience of working in NHS, Radiology or healthcare environment. Knowledge of RTT 18 week pathways, 28 Day Faster Diagnostics
