Applications are invited for a full-time Clinical Fellowship in Diabetes Technology at the Leicester Diabetes Centre based at the Leicester General Hospital.For the right candidate, we can discuss extension up to 3 years if they want to undertake a PhD.
The position is based within the Leicester Diabetes Centre at Leicester General hospital, led by Professor Dame Melanie Davies and Professor Kamlesh Khunti that is one of the largest facilities in Europe for conducting first class clinical research.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious trainee ( ST5 or senior) or someone who has recently finished their specialist training and wants to enhance their clinical and academic portfolio in diabetes and technology. Prior research or technology experience is not essential.The role would involve between 3-5 clinics / week focussed on delivery of hybrid closed loop therapy and management of complex type 1 and type 2 diabetes under the supervision of Professor Pratik Choudhary and Professor Dame Melanie Davies. You will be responsible for running the complex T1D MDT and the pump MDT providing excellent opportunities to develop expertise in complex type 1 diabetes as well as leadership skills.

You would also be responsible for supporting the wide and varied clinical trial portfolio within the team that includes trials with new technologies and therapies. The candidate will be expected to undertake a quality improvement project and get involved in local or national service delivery and previous post-holders have been able to generate multiple abstracts and papers. There will also be opportunities to to complete parts of their diabetes / endocrine / general medical portfolio which can count towards CCT.

Training and Qualifications Essential
MBBS GMC registration Eligible to reside and work in the UK Training in diabetes and endocrinology and some experience of using diabetes technology
Desirable
Close to completion of training in diabetes and endocrinology or recently completed training Higher degree (research)
Analytical and Judgement Skills Essential
Ability to review and analyse data
Communication and Relationship Skills Essential
Fluent in written and spoken English Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team .Good communication skills with both patients and staff
