To qualify at the GS-12 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Performing or supporting programs, projects, investigations, evaluations, monitoring, and/or compliance activities involving U.S. international trade matters; and Conducting data analytics to collect, organize, analyze, and evaluate data concerning U.S. and international trade activities and identify significant findings, trends, risks, and implications. To qualify at the GS-13 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: Conducting or independently supporting complex projects, investigations, evaluations, monitoring, and compliance activities involving U.S. international trade, export controls, defense trade, commercial trade, or related national security matters; and Conducting advanced data analytics, economic research, and qualitative and quantitative analysis to assess U.S. and international trade activities, identify trends and risks, evaluate potential impacts, and develop findings or recommendations to support program, policy, or operational decisions.
Major DutiesAs an Export Analyst, you will perform the following duties: Uses various high-volume data sets in combination with knowledge of querying and programming languages (i.e Structured Query Language (SQL, Python), to conduct analysis within BIS advanced data tools/platforms to build data models, data pipelines and data workflows to evaluate the impact of national security and export controls. Uses various high-volume data sets in combination with knowledge of querying and programming languages (i.e. Structured Query Language (SQL), Python) to conduct analysis within BIS advanced data tools/platforms to build data models, data pipelines and data workflows to evaluate the impact of national security and economic policy regulations with regards to a wide range of commodities and technologies under the jurisdiction of the Department of Commerce. Presents well-structured written reports, data visualizations, and oral reports on complex quantitative findings and translates them into actionable insights for policy, licensing, and enforcement missions. Represents BIS on interagency task forces, committees, and other groups or conferences relating to technical and policy issues. Applies statistical, econometric and machine learning methods to evaluate trade behavior, detect potential export control violations, forecast emerging risks, and assess the economic impact for leaders to determine policy direction, advice and guidance to the Department's operating units in developing and implementing effective trade and export policies.
