Healthcare Management Trust (HMT) is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our Ward team,on a fixed term basis for a year's maternity cover,and provide high-quality, person-centred care to a diverse range of surgical patients.
This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse who is passionate about delivering excellent standards of care, developing their clinical knowledge and making a genuine difference to the experience and outcomes of our patients.
Working under the guidance of the Ward Manager and alongside the multidisciplinary team, you will play an important role in assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating individualised nursing care. You will support patients throughout their surgical journey, including pre- and post-operative care, discharge planning and continuity of care.
You will also have the opportunity to contribute to a positive learning environment, supporting students, learners and junior colleagues while continuing to develop your own professional practice.
Main duties of the job
As a Registered Nurse, you will:
Provide safe, effective and compassionate nursing care to a varied group of surgical patients.Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care plans, adapting care according to patients' changing needs.Provide high-quality pre- and post-operative care, including monitoring vital signs and recognising and responding appropriately to patient deterioration.Safely administer prescribed medicines and monitor patients for their effects.Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive nursing documentation, including electronic patient records.Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure excellent patient outcomes and continuity of care.Support effective discharge planning and ensure appropriate continuity and aftercare between hospital and home.Maintain patients' privacy, dignity, confidentiality and independence at all times.Contribute to the development and sharing of good clinical practice within the ward.Support students, learners and junior colleagues, contributing to a positive learning environment.Participate in teaching, preceptorship, mentoring and professional development activities as appropriate.Identify and report risks, accidents and incidents in accordance with HMT policies and procedures.Maintain high standards of infection prevention and control, health and safety and information governance.Work flexibly across clinical areas when required, according to your skills, experience and service needs.

Job description Job responsibilities
1.
The post holder must have valid NMC Registration and Revalidation and work in accordance with the NMC demonstrating knowledge and skills related to evidence-based practice. Be aware of your role with regard to the Medicines of Code of Practice.
2.
A holistic approach to caring should be planned that will include the appropriate level of physiological, pathological, spiritual, socio-economic and cultural aspects which influence the care of clients within your specific specialty.
3.
To ensure that all patient care is documented and all the relevant documentation is completed accurately within agreed timescales using approved patient documentation, in line with NMC and local standards showing an ability to work both autonomously and within a team.
4.
Implement a nursing plan for an assigned group of patients indicating assessment and re-assessment formulated for individual care pathways and discharge planning.
5.
Maintain and promote effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team and other Wards/Departments.
6.
Contribute towards sharing good practice within the ward/department.
7.
Maintain an awareness of the developments in the care and treatment of patients in order to be able to carry out duties competently and efficiently.
8.
Prioritise workload as ward acuity requires being aware of budget requirements whilst maintaining excellent clinical standards of nursing practice.
9.
To work cohesively with all members of the ward team in ensuring that the very best services to patients are provided at all times and keeping accurate and complete records of patients documentation and care plans. Ensure that nursing documentation is maintained to HMT standards (including electronic records). Maintaining confidentiality and integrity of information in line with data protection.

The post holder must ensure continuity of care between home and hospital/clinic and that appropriate aftercare is provide following discharge from hospital/clinic

Safely administers prescribed medications and monitor effects.
12.
Undertake formal and informal teaching sessions as required and undertake training to act as a mentor to students.
13.
To maintain confidentiality surrounding patients admissions and treatment at all times to order tests and clinical investigations as directed using the hospital IT systems and access results as appropriate ensuring that the correct results are documented.
14.
Maintains a safe environment for the patient pre- and post-surgery, including monitoring vital signs as per post-operative policy, while providing high standard and quality care.
15.
Ensure where appropriate that the programmes of training for learners, both student nurses and support workers are completed.
16.
To promote the Health Care Management Trusts (HMT) image to all individuals, groups and organizations both within the hospital and to the community at large.
17.
Report all accidents and untoward incidents to the nurse in charge of the area and complete an incident form in accordance with HMT policy.
18.
Be aware of health and safety issues and attends training sessions and mandatory training.
19.
Be able to identify potential risks and carry out risk assessments consistent with organisation policies, procedures, and legal requirements.
20.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of a positive learning environment for colleagues, patients and visitors.
21.
Staff may be required to work in different departments at times to assist the departments and contribute to ongoing development.
22.
Attend all mandatory training and participate in the program for preceptorship and to be a support to new and junior staff as required.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Basic/Intermediate life support (ALS trained desirable) Knowledge and experience in surgical nursing, working with complex surgical patients with a vast variety of patient specialties to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care and adapt and make necessary changes while maintaining privacy and dignity. Identify deteriorating patients and take appropriate action. Ability to demonstrate assertiveness, tact and diplomacy Enthusiastic, self-motivated, proactive and flexible with a can do attitude Registered Nurse Qualification Advanced Diploma/Degree
