Job summary
We are looking for a motivated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Outpatients and Pre-Assessment team. This role is working 15 hours per week
This is an exciting opportunity to work across a varied surgical service, providing high-quality nursing care to patients attending outpatient clinics and preparing for surgery. The role offers a diverse workload, including nurse-led pre-assessment, wound management, dressing clinics and supporting minor surgical procedures.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate patient care while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality and patient experience.
Main duties of the job
As a Registered Nurse within our Outpatients and Pre-Assessment Department, you will:
Deliver high-quality, patient-centred nursing care across a range of surgical specialties. Independently manage nurse-led pre-assessment and dressing clinics. Undertake comprehensive pre-operative assessments, identifying and escalating clinical risks appropriately. Provide specialist wound care, including the management of complex wounds. Assist clinicians during minor and intermediate surgical procedures following appropriate training. Support patients through their surgical journey, providing clear information, reassurance and compassionate care. Order and review diagnostic tests and investigations in accordance with local protocols. Maintain accurate clinical records and documentation. Participate in clinical governance, incident reporting and quality improvement initiatives. Work flexibly as part of the multidisciplinary team to meet service demands while maintaining patient safety. Support the learning and development of student nurses and junior colleagues where appropriate. Practice in accordance with the NMC Code and HMT policies and procedures.

Job description Job responsibilities
Knowledge and experience in surgical nursing, working with complex surgical patients with a vast variety of patient specialties. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide the highest standard of nursing care.
Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programs of care, actively seeking evidence-based practice which will improve the quality of care and meeting the needs of the patients.
Competency in wound clinic, including complex wound management.
Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, relatives and staff, overcoming any barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events, eg where a patient is unable to progress to surgery due to risks identified at nurse led pre-assessment
Competency in pre-op admission and appropriate risk assessment and care planning to meet individual needs, ensuring any risks are identified and escalated as per the pre-assessment guidance.
Assist in minor and intermediate surgical procedures, following a period of training in aseptic non-touch technique (ANTT) and day theatre.
Ensure the safety of the department and the risk management process by actively participating in clinical risk and quality issues, including the reporting and management of clinical incidents.
A range of physical skills also include, administering injections, wound care, completing patient observations, using a keyboard, using mechanical equipment, transferring patients, fitting prescribed TED stockings and other health care aids.
Order tests and clinical investigations as directed using the clients IT systems and access results as appropriate ensuring that the correct results are documented.
Must work at all times in accordance with the NMC Code
Be able to identify and react appropriately to changing demands, situations and pressures in the department and prioritize accordingly, working as part of the team to be flexible and accommodating as appropriate, ensuring patient safety is always prioritised.
Maintain confidentiality and integrity of information in line with data protection requirements.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
At least a year post-graduation experience - Able to Nurse and care for a variety specialties and complexities of surgery -Registered Nurse (Adult) Part 1 NMC Register -Surgical nursing experience -Evidence of continuing professional development
Desirable
Experience In pre-assessment, wound management and assisting in minor procedures
