About this role

Job summary

Applications are being sought to join our Obstetrics and Gynaecology medical team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.All Specialty Doctor appointments are made in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of service.

Applicants will have completed at least six years full-time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) and have at least 2 years of NHS experience at senior registrar level in a relevant specialty. Alternatively, applicants shall have the equivalent experience and competencies of this specialist training. You should also hold full GMC registration and have completed MRCOG prior to commencing the post.

The post holder will have the majority of their duties based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital but may be expected to undertake outpatient clinics and theatres in a variety of settings cross county.

All emergency work is carried out at WRH with the delivery suite also based here. Gynaecology outpatient clinics and Antenatal clinics run at the Kidderminster Treatment Centre, The Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, Evesham, Bromsgrove, Malvern and Tenbury.

At the AH we have developed a Womens Health Unit where we undertake the majority of ambulatory procedures.Day case and short stay intermediate surgical procedures are performed mainly at KTC and AH, with most complex surgery occurring at the main WRH site. We have also recently started performing robotic surgery in AH.

Is wishing to continue to develop their general Obstetrics and Gynaecology skillsCan independently run antenatal clinics, general gynaecology clinics, and theatre sessions, including caesarean section listsHas an interest in menopause and has completed, or is registered for, the Menopause ATSM or SITM.Is happy to supervise and assist Foundation and Junior doctors (GP trainees and ST1-2) in the admission of new patientsIs able to assist and contribute to Gynaecology and antenatal clinics, participate in ward rounds, manage delivery suite, perform caesarean sections and assist in gynaecology theatreCan attend departmental meetings as required

Job description Job responsibilities

This job description, together with the job plan, will be reviewed annually and agreed with the Clinical Director and Divisional Medical Director, on behalf of the Chief Medical Officer, to ensure that it continually reflects the areas of work, clinical responsibility of the post and purchaser requirements.

A suitably experienced post-holder will be expected to provide an appropriate clinical service in the relevant specialty to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and to General Practitioners.The post-holder will be expected to provide a service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi-disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary teams in providing high quality clinical care. It is anticipated work will be undertaken on three sites and closer to the patients home. The Trust is seeking to extend services to GP surgeries/health centres etc and job plans may be revised in due course.The post-holder will provide support to the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.The post-holder will provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.The post-holder will attend cross county and cross site meetings.To collaborate with colleagues to deliver a high quality, timely service and to work towards meeting the Trust's and departmental objectives.The post-holder will participate in the middle grade on call rota to ensure that both emergency and urgent services are provided out of normal hours, to be shared equally with colleagues in post.The Trust would expect a Specialty Doctor whilst undertaking non-resident on-call duties to attend the hospital site to review patients when clinically necessary. The Specialty Doctor on call must be prepared to attend willingly whenever requested to do so by a member of their medical and nursing team.

Experience Essential

At least four years full-time or equivalent postgraduate training, at least two of which will be in the relevant specialty training programme, or as a FTSTA. Or equivalent experience and competencies of this specialist training Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems both emergency and elective within specialty Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

Qualifications Essential

Eligible for full GMC Registration with a Licence to practise at the time of appointment MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. MROG degree. Registration of Menopause ATSM / SITM, or completion of accredited menopause course from BMS or IMS.

Higher degree Higher degree CESR, CCT Completion of Menopause ATSM, SITM.

Teaching Experience Essential

Ability to teach clinical skills to medical, nursing staff and other disciplines. Experience of teaching clinical skills to undergraduates and postgraduates.

An understanding of the current NHS environment, particularly in relation to reforms, initiatives and issues Able to meet the travel requirements of the job and return to the hospital within 30 minutes when undertaking non-resident on call duties

Publications in relevant peer- reviewed journals in the last 5 years Evidence of having undertaken original research
