About this role

Job summary The Occupational Therapist within the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team (CRHT) provides specialist, recovery-focused assessment and intervention for individuals experiencing an acute mental health crisis. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the post holder supports people to remain safely at home where appropriate, promotes independence, and helps individuals regain daily functioning, meaningful activity and community participation. The role involves assessing occupational needs, developing personalised recovery plans, supporting admission avoidance and facilitating successful discharge from acute services

Main duties of the job The Occupational Therapist provides specialist assessment and recovery-focused intervention for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis, supporting independence, daily functioning and community living while contributing to admission avoidance and effective discharge planning

Person Specification

Experience Essential

oAppropriate demonstrable post-registration experience, including experience within mental health services or a relevant clinical area. oExperience of assessing occupational needs and delivering individual and group occupational therapy interventions. oExperience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team and liaising with partner agencies. oExperience of supervising or supporting junior staff, students or support staff. oDocumented evidence of continuing professional development. oExperience of contributing to audit, service evaluation or quality improvement activity. oExperience across a range of mental health settings or crisis/community services.

Qualifications Essential

Diploma or degree in Occupational Therapy. Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council. Practice Placement Educator qualification or willingness to complete required training. Willingness to undertake post-registration or postgraduate learning relevant to the service area.

Desirable

Experience of contributing to audit, service evaluation or quality improvement activity. Membership of RCOT Community Section

Knowledge Essential

Specialist knowledge and application of occupational therapy assessments and interventions relevant to the client group. Understanding of occupational therapy outcome measures and their use in practice Detailed knowledge of mental health legislation, care planning processes and current mental health practice. Knowledge of recovery-focused, trauma informed and person-centred approaches to care. Applied knowledge of risk assessment, risk management and safeguarding within community mental health practice. Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and safe lone/community working practice Knowledge of clinical governance and its application to practice, audit and service evaluation. Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues and apply professional standards to clinical decision-making.

Skills Essential

Demonstrable clinical skills in individual and group occupational therapy assessment and intervention. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to organise, prioritise and respond efficiently to complex and rapidly changing information. Ability to work autonomously, manage own caseload and seek supervision appropriately. Ability to build effective multidisciplinary, interagency and community working relationships. Effective problem-solving and clinical reasoning skills Presentation, teaching, training and facilitation skills Computer literacy and ability to use electronic clinical record systems.
