About this role

Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (Pelvic Floor) to join our specialist colorectal service.

This is an exciting opportunity for a nurse with an interest in pelvic floor dysfunction and functional bowel disorders to develop advanced clinical skills within a supportive team. Annex 21 of the NHS Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions is available for suitable candidates, offering a structured development pathway towards the full role.

As an autonomous practitioner, you will assess, manage and support patients with colonic motility and pelvic floor disorders, developing personalised treatment plans and providing expert advice on bowel management. You will be involved in requesting and interpreting a range of diagnostic investigations, including transit studies, CT colonography, defecating proctograms, endoanal ultrasound, blood tests and stool cultures.

The role also includes supporting patients with anal irrigation and other bowel management strategies, helping them achieve the best possible outcomes and quality of life. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, you will liaise with tertiary referral centres to coordinate specialist surgical management when appropriate.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have experience in anal irrigation and will advise and support the patient in the use of appropriate methods of bowel management from a full range of products.

They will independently support the patient and liaise with tertiary referral centres for functional bowel surgical management where appropriate.

The post holder will be an experienced Nurse Practitioner. The role will require excellent communication skills and dedication to improve and develop services that positively influence patient care and experience.

The post holder will be an independent practitioner with a clinical caseload working alongside the Lead Colorectal Nurse Practitioner and other Colorectal Nurses, providing professional expertise and ensuring the highest standard of care is given to patients and their families who are under investigation and management of colorectal/ functional bowel disease.

Annex 21 Essential

Annex 21; Will be required to undertake up to a 24 month training/ development /competency programme upon commencement of this role, with an aim to attain the required qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience to carry out all duties listed in this Job Description. During this training period, salary will be paid in accordance with Annex 21 of the Terms and Conditions.

Qualifications/Training Essential

1st level Registered Nurse with current live PIN on NMC Register. ILS qualification.

Desirable

Post Registration Course in Colorectal Nursing. Independent Prescribing. IRMER Training.

Knowledge/Skills Essential

Professional clinical knowledge acquired through Master's Degree, or possess an equivalent level of skills, experience and knowledge in Colorectal Care. Advanced assessment skills. Highly developed clinical and theoretical knowledge relating to the management of acute/chronic conditions. Evidence of functional bowel clinical involvement experience with anal irrigation and assessment. Understanding and knowledge of current issues in Nursing and NHS. Willing to undertake a structured plan of identified clinical competencies.

Desirable

Welsh Language Skills (Speaking and Listening) (Level 3 and above/B1)

Experience Essential

Post registration experience working in a colorectal setting at Band 6 level or above. Experience of managing own workload.
