Salary: £51,909 - £54,245 (Inclusive of 12.5% market supplement)

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a conscientious and committed Approved Mental Health Professional to join the Wiltshire AMHP Hub. Wiltshire Council utilises a Hub & Spoke model of service, staffed by highly skilled and competent AMHPs who always aim to maximise the independence of service users.

The role of the team is to provide the statutory AMHP function on behalf of the Council. The Team ensures referrals for Mental Health Act related work are managed appropriately. This includes undertaking assessments under the Act, dealing with Nearest Relative related work, and managing CTO and Guardianship related work.

You will need to undertake assessments under the Act when appropriate but also record clearly when referrals and assessments are not progressed. You will be involved in CTO work, Guardianship work as well as mental health Breathing Space work. Your role will include you undertaking the AMHP Triage role from time to time.

To be successful in this role you will have a recognised and relevant professional qualification (i.e. Degree/Diploma in Social Work or equivalent) and be registered with your professional body. You will be a qualified and experienced AMHP. You will have expert knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the Mental Capacity Act, the Care Act and other relevant legislation. You will have a significant understanding and awareness of mental health, AMHP practice and emerging developments in these fields.

be part of the AMHP duty rota and carry out the AMHPs roles under the Mental Health Act as requiredassess the need to make applications for compulsory detention in hospital under the Mental Health Actprovide an opinion regarding continued detentioncoordinate, manage and take responsibility in conjunction with other professionals, for the health and safety of all participants (including Police and ambulance personnel) during the Mental Health Act assessment process.if appropriate, make recommendations in relation to Community Treatment Orders and assessments for Guardianshipattend specialist update training, supervision and AMHP meetings to ensure eligibility for reapprovalundertake the assessment of adults with mental health problems including assessing risk and planning, implementing and reviewing services as appropriate to enable independent functioning and ensure that service users and their carers are protected from harm, referring on to other services where appropriate.be responsible for a caseload of varying complexity commensurate with ability and qualifications including receiving and responding to referrals from various sourcesact as duty officer for the team as required, participating in the duty rota and responding effectively to referrals and enquiriesundertake training to be an Appropriate Adult and perform the role as required undertakeundertake statutory reviews, complying with appropriate legislation, policy and proceduresif appropriate assess carers needs and formulate a carers care planprofessional supervision of unqualified staff and students where appropriateparticipate in regular professional supervision, both individual and group and take active responsibility for personal development and appraisalmaintain accurate notes and relevant statistical dataensure all service users, particularly those with disabilities, gain equal access to relevant community services, by intervention on their behalf or raising awareness and providing individual support and adviceestablish appropriate relationships with service users, their families, carers and external agencies, promoting anti-discriminatory practice and equality andenabling effective partnership in the delivery of services.Liaise with health staff in primary or secondary care.liaise with social work staff in other teams e.g. Adult Care and Children & Families Service as appropriate and facilitate communication for other multi-disciplinary team members if necessarykeep up to date with developments within the social care field and the duties and requirements of Social Services Authoritiesundertake investigating officer training within the Safeguarding procedure and perform in the role
