School Social Worker Middle & High School Reports to: Principal & Director of Student Health & Wellness Qualifications:
• Social Work Degree
• North Carolina License in School Social Work
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide individual and group counseling to students who have been identified by teachers, counselors, or administrators as at-risk.
• Identify all students deemed at risk for possible dropouts and/or with prior attendance concerns.
• Facilitate a mentor/mentee relationship for students identified at risk for dropout.
• Monitor all absences and ensure that parents are notified when students have missed 3, 6, or 10 days.
• Maintain parent contact records related to absences.
• Coordinate school based mental health services.
• Work in conjunction with other staff to assist credit recovery for students who fall behind.
• Coordinate school health services for pregnant students and/or parenting students.
• Attend system level, school level and departmental meetings to staff high risk students.
• Refer students to other agencies or personnel as needed.
• Serve as liaison between principal, teacher, school counselors, students and parents to address problems affecting school performance and attendance.
• Provide counseling for students on a variety of issues which affect the student and family (i.e. substance abuse, teen pregnancy, domestic violence, and violent behaviors).
• Interface and network with a wide variety of public and private agencies and services to provide for the needs of students.
• Prepare, coordinate and present cases in Juvenile Court and District Court in accordance with the NC Compulsory Attendance Statutes.
• Work closely with court counselors and others on investigation and follow-up of cases already adjudicated.
• Track all dropouts, conduct exit interviews when possible and provide outreach to students who quit attending school.
• Complete monthly report concerning dropout, withdrawals, and student and parent contacts.
• Provide Tobacco Education for policy offenders as stated in Code of Conduct.
• Implement the Drug Policy Intervention as stated in the Code of Conduct.
• Perform other duties related to at risk students.
