About this role

Job Summary This individual is responsible for program building including planning, managing, and directing the JV softball program. Additionally, candidate shall remain abreast of and adhere to VHSL and division policies and procedures, strive to develop the sports program by following established guidelines, and manage all aspects of the JV softball team including strength training and conditioning and practicing. The individual, in collaboration with the head varsity coach, will work on scheduling, evaluation of student athletes, and management of the program budget. The individual will process and submit all required forms on time, monitor and maintain use of facilities and equipment, and complete an annual inventory of all issued equipment. If an instructional vacancy for which the candidate qualifies is available, he or she will be considered to fill the vacancy. Qualifications

• Previous experience coaching softball required.

• Thorough knowledge of applicable VHSL rules and regulations required.

• Proven ability to lead and motivate student-athletes.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.

• Bachelor's degree and valid Virginia teaching license preferred.

Essential Duties 1. Responsible for instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. 2. Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises. 3. Assesses player's skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and remained abreast of the athletic and academic performance of students. 4. In collaboration with the varsity coach develops the program to ensure continued student athlete success both on and of the field. 5. Supervises athletes during practices and competition. 6. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury. 7. Models sportsmanship and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators. 8. Maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security. 9. Assists with the distribution of equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students. 10. Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies. 11. Distributes and maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, and other related records. 12. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities. 13. Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance. 14. Any other related duties as assigned by the varsity softball coach and Athletic Director.
