General Position Description King William County Public Schools is in search of an assistant varsity softball coach. The candidate is responsible for working with the head coach to make sure that the program continues to grow and operate in accordance with division and VHSL policy. Additionally, the candidate will adhere to established guidelines and assists in the management of the varsity softball team including strength training and conditioning and practicing. The candidate, in collaboration with head varsity coach and the athletic director, will offer input when student athletes are evaluated, assist with supervision, and assist with monitoring each student athlete's academic progress. The candidate will attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance. And shall perform other related duties as assigned by the head coach and or Athletic Director. Essential Duties
• Responsible for instructing players in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
• Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises.
• Assesses player's skills, monitors players during competition and practice, and remain abreast of the athletic and academic performance of students.
• In collaboration with the varsity coach, develops the program to ensure continued student athlete success both on and off the field.
• In collaboration with the head coach, determines game strategy.
• Supervises athletes during practices and competition.
• Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
• Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
• Maintains the equipment room in orderly condition and assumes responsibility for its security.
• Assists in the distribution of equipment, supplies, and uniforms to students.
• Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies.
• Distributes and maintains eligibility forms, emergency data, and other related records.
• Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
• Attends staff development meetings, clinics and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
• Maintains field and other facilities on campus.
• Performs any other related duties as assigned by the head varsity coach, Athletic Director & Principal or other appropriate administrator.

• Must possess knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.
• Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills required.
• Qualified to teach in Virginia; current license preferred.
• Current CDL with passenger endorsement highly recommended.
• High school coaching experience in the sport is highly recommended.
