About this role

1. Teaches challenging and differentiated content and skills in English Language Arts to students in grades 6, 7, and 8 who have been identified as gifted/talented in ELA. 2. Teaches and encourages students to think independently and creatively. 3. Supports the social and emotional health of gifted students. 4. Models intellectual curiosity and high aspirations. 5. Communicates regularly with parents/guardians on matters of curriculum, individual progress toward learning targets, conduct, and social/emotional health 6. Seeks out and requisitions materials appropriate to the interest and ability of students; maintains required inventory controls. 7. Participates in curriculum development in cooperation with WMS staff and gifted teachers at WPS and Manchester. 8. Oversees the annual Gifted/Talented selection process. 9. Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.

Must hold Maine Teacher Certificate and be Highly Qualified in the area of English Language Arts and a K-12 gifted endorsement (690) is preferred. Must also hold an approved Maine CHRC at time of hire.
