Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Patient Pathway Coordinator in the Department of Urology. You will have the unique opportunity to support and gain experience within the Specialist Service.
The post holder will provide a pivotal administrative service to consultants and their clinical teams. They will work flexibly with the other team members within the Clinical Support Unit and provide a professional, efficient administrative service to patients. The main function of the role will be to coordinate and schedule the patient pathway, from referral to first outpatient appointment, through diagnostics, treatment planning, treatment, and follow-up, highlighting any potential delays in the pathway and ensuring accurate data collection to support the process.
This post is 1.0 WTE to cover Monday to Friday and between the hours of 8am-5pm.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an independent, enthusiastic and well organised person to join our busy team. The role of the Patient Pathway Coordinator is to work closely with clinicians and Patient Pathway Lead to ensure that the care pathway of all patients is effectively managed.
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and organising skills, attention to detail, IT skills and ability to communicate across all levels. The successful candidate will be providing support to the clinical teams and ensuring continuation of service at all times.

This role will primarily be focussed on supporting the Clinical Team within Urology.
Duties will include: typing of correspondence, chasing results, cashing up clinics, managing department inbox, fully utilising clinics, recording and validating activity on EPIC, and liaising with internal stakeholders.

Person Specification
Communication & Relationship Skills Essential
Able to communicate clearly and sensitively with a wide range of patients, in situations where there may be barriers to understanding (e.g. language difficulties, anxious or distressed patients or relatives). 2 Able to induct new staff into the department, demonstrating tasks to colleagues.
Knowledge, Training & Experience Essential
Educated to GCSE level or equivalent, with Grade C or above in English and Maths. Higher Education qualification (i.e. A Level/NVQ 3 standard) or extensive equivalent/previous experience in an Administration role Previous experience in administration/secretarial/personal assistant capacity in a large and complex organisation Interpretation and analysis of reports, databases and spread-sheet information. Awareness of the requirement to maintain confidentiality, and knowledge of the Data Protection Act. Experience of working in a non-routine environment, with demonstrable evidence of problem solving and resolving issues as they arise (acquired through experience and/or training to Vocational level 4 or equivalent). Experience of working in a customer facing environment, resolving queries and using initiative to ensure first-class service delivery. Ability to work under pressure and meet competing demands An ability to accurately transcribe complicated/complex and sensitive tapes/notes and type complicated/complex information while subject to frequent interruptions. Able to secure the co-operation of colleagues at all level.
Desirable
Previous NHS experience, or experience of working in a healthcare setting. Data analysis experience.

Ability to make decisions in a constantly changing environment using judgement to deal with queries or escalate where necessary. Able to deal with sensitive information with tact, diplomacy and understanding. An ability to provide accurate and appropriate non-clinical advice and information to others - colleagues, staff at all levels, patients and their families. Planning & Organisational Skills Essential
Able to work independently, managing own workload, prioritising tasks and working to deadlines. Continually monitor, review and, where appropriate, suggest/implement changes to improve the working practices and systems
IT skills Essential
Advanced keyboard skills, and competent use of IT.
