Are you a GP looking for a flexible opportunity to increase your sessions for a defined period, while making a real difference to patient access? We are offering a fixed-term salaried GP position until 31 March 2027, supported by CAIP funding, providing an exciting opportunity to join our friendly and forward-thinking practice.

Main duties of the job

The successful GP will provide high-quality, safe and compassionate clinical care to our registered patients, working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.

The role will involve assessing and managing patients presenting with a broad range of acute, chronic and undifferentiated conditions, using your clinical expertise to make appropriate decisions about investigation, treatment, referral and ongoing care.

You will have the opportunity to build positive relationships with patients and contribute to continuity of care, while making effective use of the wider practice team and available community services.

You will be expected to maintain high standards of clinical documentation, prescribing and patient safety, and to work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure patients receive appropriate and timely care.

We are looking for a GP who is confident, approachable and committed to delivering excellent patient care. You will be supported by an experienced clinical and administrative team and will have the opportunity to contribute positively to the continued development of our practice.

Job Purpose

The post holder will provide high-quality, safe and effective general medical services to the practice population, working collaboratively with the wider clinical and administrative team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing and managing a broad range of acute and chronic presentations in primary care, ensuring patients receive appropriate treatment, investigation, referral and follow-up.

The role is being offered as a fixed-term opportunity to support increased patient access and capacity within the practice.

Key ResponsibilitiesThe post holder will:

Provide comprehensive general medical services to registered patients, including assessment and management of acute, chronic and complex conditions.Conduct appropriate clinical consultations, including face-to-face, telephone and other remote consultations where required.Make appropriate clinical decisions regarding diagnosis, investigation, treatment, referral and follow-up.Provide appropriate preventative healthcare, health promotion and screening advice.Manage patients with long-term conditions in accordance with current evidence-based guidance and practice protocols.Prescribe safely and cost-effectively in accordance with local and national guidance.Recognise and appropriately manage patients presenting with urgent or potentially serious illness.Make appropriate referrals to secondary care, community services and other healthcare professionals.Provide appropriate safety-netting advice and ensure patients understand when and how to seek further medical assistance.Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and comprehensive clinical records in accordance with professional and practice requirements.Review and action investigation results, correspondence and other clinical information appropriately.Work effectively with the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure coordinated and patient-centred care.Participate in practice meetings and contribute to effective communication across the clinical team.Support the delivery of practice targets, contractual requirements and quality improvement initiatives where appropriate.Maintain awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and act appropriately where there are concerns regarding children or adults at risk.Comply with infection prevention and control requirements.Maintain appropriate standards of confidentiality, information governance and data protection.Undertake appropriate clinical administration associated with patient care.Participate in clinical audit, significant event review and quality improvement activities as appropriate.Maintain professional competence and undertake appropriate continuing professional development.Work within the requirements of the GMC, relevant legislation, NHS guidance and practice policies.Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role and level of responsibility.Clinical Governance and Patient SafetyThe post holder will be expected to contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and patient safety. This includes:

Reporting and learning from significant events, incidents and complaints.Participating in clinical audit and quality improvement activity.Maintaining awareness of current clinical guidance and evidence-based practice.Ensuring appropriate clinical documentation and coding.Identifying and escalating risks to patient safety.Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and standards of conduct.Contributing to effective clinical governance within the practice.Communication and TeamworkingThe post holder will work closely with GP colleagues, practice nurses, healthcare assistants, pharmacists, care coordinators, reception and administrative staff and other members of the wider healthcare team.

The post holder should demonstrate excellent communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, carers and colleagues.

The GP will be expected to contribute positively to the practice environment, treating colleagues with respect and supporting a culture of teamwork and professionalism.

SafeguardingThe post holder must:

Understand and fulfil their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding children and adults.Recognise signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation and vulnerability.Follow practice safeguarding procedures and appropriately escalate concerns.Maintain appropriate safeguarding knowledge and training for the role.Confidentiality and Information GovernanceThe post holder must maintain strict confidentiality regarding patients, colleagues and practice business.

They must comply with relevant information governance, data protection and confidentiality requirements and ensure patient information is accessed, recorded and shared appropriately.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Appropriate experience in general practice. Sound knowledge of current primary care clinical practice. Ability to assess and manage a broad range of acute and chronic presentations. Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills. Good communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to safe, effective and compassionate patient care. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Commitment to continuing professional development and clinical governance. Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and information governance. Ability to manage workload effectively and prioritise clinical risk.

Desirable

Experience of working within a busy general practice environment. Experience of clinical audit and quality improvement. Experience of working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Interest or experience in a particular area of general practice that could contribute to the wider practice team.

Qualifications Essential

Fully qualified GP with current GMC registration and licence to practise. Inclusion on the NHS England Medical Performers List. MRCGP or equivalent.
