About this role

Job summary

The post holder will work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team within Ophthalmology in order to routinely provide both coreoptometric and ophthalmologic care, specifically disease treatment/management, to high volumes of patients. Optometrists are registeredwith the General Optical Council (GOC) and have a high level of clinical training, specialist knowledge and skill. The role demands a highlevel of individual professional responsibility, efficiency within both core and clinical optometry and good communication and workingrelationship with the multi-disciplinary team.

This post is a fixed term/secondment for 11 months until 30th of June 2027. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.

Main duties of the job

To work independently across all core elements of hospital optometry and continue to build specialist knowledge to supplement the careprovided. To utilise specialist ophthalmic instruments and complex equipment that often requires adopting unusual or restriction body positions.To work within the multidisciplinary team to ensure that the care delivered to all patients is of the highest standards and quality.To carry out delegated administrative responsibilities to support the smooth running of the Optometry Department.To communicate complex condition related and sensitive issues to patients about diagnosis and prognosis and provide counselling andadvice where appropriate.To take initiative in understanding their own learning and experience requirements to progress and develop knowledge in specialistareas, such as paediatric ophthalmologyTo ensure that all administrative tasks associated with their patients are completed in a timely manner to avoid delay to patient care. To ensure that all aspects of clinical governance are adhered to; specifically with regards to patient records and data for the use ofclinical development. To follow national and local protocol with regards to the follow-up/discharge and management of patients.To liaise and communicate with members of the multidisciplinary team in the planning and delivery of patient care.
