Job summary We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Radiographer to undertake the role of X-ray Team Manager within our busy and dynamic Imaging Service at St James's University Hospital. This is a key leadership position combining clinical expertise, operational management, workforce leadership and service development. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management and performance of the acute 24/7 General Radiography service, supporting the delivery of high-quality imaging for the Emergency Department, inpatient wards and outpatient services.
St James's Hospital provides a high-volume and diverse range of imaging services, supporting emergency, trauma, specialist and elective care pathways across one of the largest teaching hospitals in the UK. The department is currently undergoing significant investment, including departmental redesign and installation of new imaging equipment, providing an exciting opportunity to contribute to service modernisation and future service development. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and motivated individual to work closely with the Lead Radiographer and existing Team Managers to provide leadership across General Radiography services, contributing to service transformation and helping shape the future of imaging services within Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

As the X-ray Team Manager, you will:
Lead the operational management of the General Radiography service, ensuring safe, effective and efficient service delivery 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Provide visible leadership and support to radiographic staff, fostering a positive, inclusive and patient-focused culture. Manage staffing resources, workforce planning and service capacity to meet clinical demand and performance targets. Support recruitment, appraisal, supervision, training and professional development of staff. Monitor service quality, patient experience and departmental performance, implementing improvements where required. Ensure compliance with IR(ME)R, radiation protection legislation, health and safety requirements and Trust governance standards. Work collaboratively with radiologists, clinicians, operational managers and professional leads to deliver high-quality patient care. Lead and support service transformation projects, including departmental redesign, equipment replacement programmes and implementation of new ways of working. Contribute to business planning, service development and achievement of Trust and departmental objectives. Act as a senior clinical resource within the department, maintaining professional standards and supporting complex clinical decision-making where required. What you will bring to the role We are looking for an experienced and motivated Radiographer who can provide strong operational and professional leadership within a demanding acute imaging environment.
The successful candidate will:
Be HCPC registered with substantial post-registration experience in General Radiography. Have experience of leading, supervising or managing teams within a clinical environment. Demonstrate excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. Have the ability to lead and motivate teams through change and service transformation. Be confident managing operational pressures and making decisions in a fast-paced environment. Demonstrate sound judgement, problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise competing demands. Have a strong understanding of governance, quality improvement, workforce management and radiation safety. Be committed to delivering high-quality patient-centred care and continuously improving services. Build effective working relationships with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders across the organisation. Embrace innovation and actively contribute to the future development of imaging services.
