2 x permanent band 6 Bioinformatician position (based at either Leeds, Sheffield or Newcastle North East and Yorkshire Genomic Laboratory Hub sites)
37.5 hours per week, full time
Main duties of the job In response to NHS Englands recent Strategy and Service Specification for the future of Genomics services in England, Newcastle Teaching Hospitals, Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Sheffield Childrens Trust and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals have formed the North East and Yorkshire Genomics Laboratory Hub (NEY GLH); an exciting collaboration to provide services for Genomics across Yorkshire and Humber and the North. The combined size of our geography makes this the largest collaboration in the country with the Trusts offering a range of both general and specialist hospital services with excellent clinical outcomes for patients. We have an international reputation for excellence in specialist care, research, and academic training.

Job description Job responsibilities What you will bring to the role
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
The post holder will work under guidance to provide highly specialised bioinformatics expertise to support the diagnostic platforms being used within NEY GLH. This will include implementation and validation of methods of data handling, software development, and analysis and interpretation of data that will ultimately have a direct impact on patient care. The post holder will work with the lead bioinformation and within the NEY GLH virtual team based across the different NEY GLH sites to plan activities and develop the bioinformatics capability of NEY GLH. The post holder will be required to carry out research and development and service improvement in the field of genetics and bioinformatics. The post holder will have appropriate scientific duties and responsibilities to contribute to the provision and development of an effective and high quality diagnostic service. Maintain awareness of, and adhere to, all relevant codes of practice, Health & Safety procedures and operational policies, and inform the safety officer of any hazards or potential risks encountered. Ensure the best possible standard of work by applying scientific skills and expertise to maintain a high level of quality, reliability, timeliness and accuracy. Contribute information, both written and verbal, to local and national scientific meetings and workshops.
