Do you want to experience of working in a tertiary referral hospital delivering core and sub-speciality Orthoptic practice?
Do you want to work in a supportive team with nationally recognised experts in their field? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Orthoptist to join our team as an Advanced Orthoptist.
The role is part-time, covering a one year secondment (Oct 2026-Sept 2027).
Main duties of the job
The role will be predominantly based at Moorfields Eye Hospital (City Road) with one day per week supporting a network site.
The successful candidate will be working alongside a multidisciplinary team across a range of sub-speciality clinics including botulinum toxin, motility, paediatric, adnexal, neurology and orthoptic-optometric led services.
The candidate will be expected to work autonomously in new patient clinics and be experienced to be able to be able to make appropriate onward referrals.

Be responsible for the orthoptic assessment, diagnosis and appropriate management of all patients in their care Be responsible as an independent practitioner for the planning, implementation and monitoring of orthoptic treatment Be responsible for re-referral to specialist services if indicated Collaborate and actively participate in supporting observers, health care professional and Orthoptic students attending clinical placement Support newly qualified Orthoptists

Qualifications Essential
HCPC registered Diploma or degree in Orthoptics
Desirable
Higher qualifications / working towards higher qualification
Experience Essential
Significant clinical experience in orthoptic NHS setting, involving sub-specialist clinics Experience of diagnosis and management of complex ocular motility disorders Experience of providing undergraduate supervision
Desirable
Experience in tertiary referral
Skills and Knowledge Essential
Knowledge of clinical governance in relation to own area of practice Evidence of CPD
