The main duties of the role are to play an active part in the Directorate of Psychology and to lead a small team of psychologist working into the Critical Care specialism in developing and delivering high quality psychological services to patients, families and carers. Job description Job responsibilities
The post holder will contribute to the systematic provision of a high-quality specialist clinical psychology service to clients of the psychology service and provide psychological work with patients under the care of the ICU team. They will work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the delivery of a high-quality service to patients, their families and colleagues. A major requirement of the post will be the provision of clinical supervision to qualified clinical psychologists and other family of psychology, psychotherapy and counselling professionals as appropriate, to trainee psychologists as required, to offer the supervision of clinical research as needed, the provision of reflective discussions groups and consultation for senior clinical teams, counsellors, nurses, AHP colleagues in line with local service level agreements, including some organisations external to the Trust as required. Person Specification
Education and Qualification Essential
Post-graduate doctoral level training in clinical psychology as accredited by the BPS including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuro-psychology, with two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology. Registered with HCPC Post-doctoral training or experience in one or more additional areas of psychological practice pertinent to working with patients in receipt of Critical Care Services.
Desirable
Post-doctoral training or experience in management and/or leadership skills. Membership of an appropriate professional body. (BPS ACP)
Experience and Knowledge Essential
Assessed experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist, with significant post qualification experience within a field relevant to the specialism. Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings. Experience of maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for clients' psychological care and treatment, both as an autonomous professional and also within the context of a multidisciplinary/agency care plan. Experience of doctoral level teaching, training and supervision.

Post-doctoral training or experience in management and/or leadership skills. Experience of professional management of qualified and pre-qualified clinical psychologists. Experience of multi-professional management of teams or services. Experience of representing the profession in local policy fora and in national contexts as appropriate to role. Skills and Ability Essential
Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology, including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, post-doctoral level skills in clinical psychology and the ability to work in two or more distinct psychological therapy models. Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological and neuropsychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration as well as highly developed fine motor manipulation skills. A high-level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non professional groups. Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology. Knowledge of National policy and NICE guidelines appropriate to the specialty. Evidence of continuing professional developments as recommended by the BPS & HCPC. Formal training or significant experience in supervision of qualified, trainee, or assistant psychologists and other psychological therapists and appropriate professions. Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of clinical psychology.

Ability to articulate and clearly interpret the role of the profession of clinical psychology based upon a good understanding of the professional guidelines and standards as well as government and national policy. Ability to identify, provide and promote appropriate means of support to patients, carers and staff exposed to highly distressing situations. Ability to identify and employ, as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behavior. Ability to teach, train and inform others, using complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
Desirable
Record of having published in peer reviewed or academic or professional journals and/or books. Ability to effectively use relevant computer software.
