We are seeking a full-time Receptionist-Administrator to join our friendly and dynamic team at the Elgar Unit.
This is an excellent opportunity to start or develop a career in NHS administration. Full training, mentoring, and support will be provided to the successful candidate.
As the first point of contact for patients and visitors, you will provide a professional and welcoming service while supporting the smooth running of the unit. This is a rewarding but busy role that requires the ability to remain calm under pressure, manage a variety of tasks, and adapt to changing demands.
Applicants should be enthusiastic, motivated, and able to work independently to a high standard. Strong communication, organisational, and IT skills are essential, and previous experience working with the public would be an advantage.

Main duties of the job
You will be part of a busy Reception and Administration Team supporting the Urgent Care Specialist Mental Health and Learning Disabilities Services. This is a varied and rewarding role providing comprehensive administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the service.
Key responsibilities include managing telephone enquiries, monitoring shared inboxes, booking appointments, providing reception cover, and undertaking a range of general office duties. You will have regular contact with patients, carers, colleagues, and healthcare professionals, requiring excellent communication and customer service skills.
As part of the wider administration team, you will provide cross-cover when required, work closely with clinical colleagues, and ensure that daily administrative tasks are completed accurately and efficiently. The successful candidate will be highly organised, self-motivated, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
The ability to prioritise a busy workload, work flexibly to meet service demands, and maintain a professional and welcoming approach when dealing with internal and external enquiries is essential.

Qualifications Essential
Level 2 qualification (e.g. GCSE Grade 4-9/A-C, NVQ 2, OCR/RSA 2, City & Guilds 2) in a Business Administration related subject OR Level 2 qualification in an alternative subject and will be expected to undertake the relevant level 2 qualification on appointment to post OR Considerable recent NHS administrative experience and will be expected to undertake the relevant level 2 qualification on appointment to post. I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.
Knowledge Essential
Working knowledge of Microsoft packages. Knowledge of office procedures. Understanding of the confidential nature of the post.
Skills and Abilities Essential
General office skills, including filing, scanning, photocopying etc. Ability to be polite and firm when dealing with difficult, impatient, or upset people. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly in both written and verbal formats. Ability to prioritise a busy workload effectively and able to work to strict deadlines.
Experience Essential
Recent, relevant experience in an Administrative/Secretarial/ Reception/Customer Service Role.
Desirable
Previous relevant NHS experience.
