South Tyneside Talking Therapies is an award-winning service and one of the highest performing services at both regional and national level.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide screenings and interventions as part of the Talking Therapies team which also includes other therapeutic models such as, IPT, CAT, EMDR, CFD, Couples Counselling and Person Centred Counselling.
The post holder will be expected to have a commitment to a holistic model of mental health and working with partners to address client need through 1:1 work and group work.
There is recognition that staff can realise their potential through effective clinical and management supervision, managerial support, and through access to internal and external training.
Staff development and their wellbeing are accepted as priorities, and we have a long-established Wellbeing Strategy Group which develops wellbeing initiatives for the service.
This post holder will be required to work one out of hours shift per week.

The post holder will be part of South Tyneside Lifecycle Mental Health Service incorporating Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT). They will work with adults who have a range of common mental health problems in primary care providing medium level interventions which will include Counselling and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. They will use traditional and innovative treatment methods.
The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.
To meet targets set nationally and locally for access, recovery and waiting times.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Professional qualification such as DipSW, RMN, O.T. or BACP or BABPC accreditation qualified counsellor Training in a psychological or psychosocial intervention
Experience Essential
Experience of working in community settings with people experiencing a range of mental health difficulties
Desirable
Experience of working in statutory and voluntary mental health services
Physical Requirements Essential
Must have an ability to visit a variety of sites within South Tyneside.
Skills / Attributes / Knowledge Essential
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Good organisational skills and ability to work autonomously Knowledge and understanding of the recovery approach to Mental Health Able to engage people who have experienced a range of mental disorders Ability to challenge inequality and oppressive practice Basic Microsoft Office IT skills An ability to work in time-limited model that encourages focussed intervention and disengagement
