Position Summary:

The Child Care Provider is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of children in a nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment. This position plans and implements age-appropriate educational and recreational activities that support children's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development while promoting positive behavior and healthy relationships at the Yakutat Tlingit Tribe (YTT) employee day care.

This position requires compliance with Yakutat Tlingit Tribe’s compliance standards, including its Standards of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element considered as part of the position’s regular performance evaluation.

Essential Functions:

• Responsible for providing a safe, nurturing environment for children 0-10 years of age.

• Responsible for complying with State of Alaska childcare regulations and Yakutat Tlingit Tribe’s childcare policies and procedures.

• Provides age-appropriate learning activities for children.

• Complete administrative tasks including reporting (as required by the licensing agency, YTT and YCHC), scheduling, etc.

• Communicates with parents and stakeholders regarding child care activities.

• Provide continuous supervision of children to ensure their safety, health, and well-being.

• Plan and implement age-appropriate educational and recreational activities that support children's physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development.

• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized learning environment that complies with applicable health, safety, and licensing regulations.

• Observe, monitor, and document children's development, behavior, and daily activities.

• Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding children's progress, needs, and any concerns.

• Assist children with daily living activities, including eating, toileting, dressing, handwashing, and rest periods, as appropriate for their age and developmental level.

• Prepare and serve meals and snacks in accordance with nutritional guidelines and food safety standards.

• Administer medications and provide basic first aid when authorized and trained, following established policies and procedures.

• Guide children's behavior using positive behavior management techniques and conflict resolution strategies.

• Maintain accurate attendance, incident, health, and developmental records.

• Identify and report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with mandatory reporting laws.

• Collaborate with coworkers, families, and other professionals to support children's individual needs.

• Set up, clean, sanitize, and organize classrooms, toys, equipment, and activity areas.

• Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development activities.

• Respond appropriately to emergencies by implementing evacuation, lockdown, or other emergency procedures.

• This position is a Mandatory Reporter.

• Performs related duties.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity. The employee must be able to read, write, speak and hear.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility:

This is an entry-level position that reports to the 477 Case Manager. This position has no supervisory or managerial responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Possession or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alaska with a clean driving record.

• Must successfully pass a criminal history and background check.

• This position has been designated as having regular contact or control over Indian children and will require an additional FBI criminal background check.

• Must present vaccination documentation or submit to immunity testing for Tdap, hepatitis B, measles, varicella, and influenza within 3 months of hire.

• CPR and first aid certifications required (Training can be provided).
