Job DescriptionThe Environmental Service Worker maintains a hospital facility in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition to support patient care and infection control. This role prepares and maintains cleaning carts, performs detailed cleaning of patient rooms and public areas, and follows strict sanitization procedures in a clinical environment.Responsibilities
• Maintain hospital facilities in a clean and sanitary condition in accordance with established procedures and infection control standards. • Stock and organize a personal cleaning cart daily, ensuring all required supplies, tools, and chemicals are available before starting the shift. • Perform daily cleans of patient rooms, typically lasting approximately 15 minutes per room, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, and removing soiled linens. • Perform discharge cleans of patient rooms, typically lasting approximately 45 minutes per room, including fully wiping and disinfecting every surface and using appropriate cleaning chemicals based on surface type and patient status. • Follow strict sanitization and infection control procedures at all times, adhering closely to standard operating procedures (SOPs) provided on each cart. • Use different cleaning chemicals correctly and safely for various applications, ensuring proper disinfection while protecting surfaces and equipment. • Clean public areas such as lobbies, rehabilitation gyms, café areas, stairwells, and offices, including vacuuming, trash removal, and mopping. • Prioritize and complete daily and discharge cleans primarily during the morning shift, coordinating with colleagues as needed to ensure timely room turnover. • Perform most public area cleaning during the second shift, ensuring high-traffic areas remain clean, safe, and presentable for patients, visitors, and staff. • Collaborate and communicate with nursing staff and office personnel to access patient rooms and other areas at appropriate times to minimize disruption to care and operations. • Follow all safety guidelines related to chemical handling, equipment use, and personal protective measures while performing cleaning tasks. • Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or unusual conditions in patient rooms or public areas to the appropriate staff. • Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and protocols, including those related to infection prevention, confidentiality, and patient privacy. Essential Skills
• Demonstrated experience in janitorial, housekeeping, or cleaning operations, preferably in environments that emphasize infection control. • Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing techniques, including dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, trash removal, and buffing. • Background in cleaning operations focused on infection control, including proper use of disinfectants and sanitizing agents. • Ability to use different cleaning chemicals appropriately for various surfaces and patient statuses in a hospital facility. • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) closely and consistently. • Capability to maintain cleanliness in a hospital facility, including patient rooms and public areas, while adhering to safety and infection control standards. • Reliability in working a full-time evening shift schedule from 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, Monday through Friday. • Effective communication skills to collaborate with nursing and office staff and coordinate access to patient rooms and other areas. • Preferred experience working in a hospital setting or similar healthcare environment. • Familiarity with cleaning in patient care areas, including in and out of patient rooms. • Comfort working in a newer hospital facility with multiple floors and a defined bed capacity. • Willingness to participate in education and in-service opportunities, including continuing education and training related to infection control and environmental services. You will work with standard environmental services equipment and cleaning chemicals in a clinical environment that emphasizes infection control and patient safety. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Miamisburg, OH. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $16.00 - $18.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
