Job Title: Commercial Electrician (Apprentice or Journeyperson)Job DescriptionThis role offers the opportunity to work on a variety of commercial electrical projects, focusing on rough-ins, box preparation and installation, lighting installation, and related construction tasks. You will work with BX cable and EMT conduit in a fast-paced commercial environment, contributing to large-scale electrical installations and supporting the successful delivery of commercial and institutional projects.Responsibilities
• Perform electrical rough-ins on commercial construction projects, including routing and securing wiring and cable. • Prepare, install, and secure electrical boxes and related hardware according to project specifications and electrical codes. • Install and wire lighting systems, ensuring proper placement, connections, and functionality. • Work with BX cable and EMT conduit, including measuring, cutting, fitting, and installing in accordance with drawings and codes. • Pull wire through conduit and cable pathways, maintaining organization and adherence to safety and quality standards. • Bend and install conduit using appropriate tools and techniques to meet layout and design requirements. • Support electrical installations on large commercial or institutional projects as part of a coordinated construction team. • Follow all site safety procedures, including the use of fall protection and adherence to construction safety training standards. • Collaborate with site supervisors, other electricians, and construction trades to complete tasks efficiently and on schedule. • Maintain a clean and organized work area, properly storing tools, equipment, and materials. • Inspect completed work to verify compliance with electrical codes, project drawings, and quality standards. • Assist with fire alarm system installation or maintenance when required, following applicable codes and safety practices. Essential Skills
• Experience working as an apprentice or journeyperson electrician, ideally as a 2nd or 3rd year apprentice. • Hands-on experience in commercial or residential construction environments. • Proficiency in working with BX cable and EMT conduit on construction sites. • Ability to pull wire and install cable in accordance with electrical drawings and specifications. • Skill in conduit bending and installation using appropriate tools and techniques. • Knowledge of electrical construction practices, including rough-ins, box preparation, and lighting installation. • Completion of CSTS (Construction Safety Training System) or equivalent construction safety training. • Training or experience in fall protection and adherence to safe work practices on site. • Ability to read and interpret basic construction and electrical drawings. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety in all electrical work. Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Experience with fire alarm systems, including installation, testing, or maintenance. • Additional safety tickets or certifications such as First Aid, fall protection, and elevated work platform. • Prior hands on working on large commercial or institutional projects, such as office buildings, schools, hospitals, or similar facilities. • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary construction team. • Good communication skills for coordinating tasks and reporting progress on site. • Willingness to work on a contract basis with the potential for extension or permanent employment depending on workload. The work involves active, hands-on electrical construction tasks, including working with tools, conduit, cable, and elevated work platforms in a busy site environment. Safety is a core focus, with adherence to CSTS standards, fall protection requirements, and other site-specific safety protocols. The role is expected to start as a potential 3-month contract, with the possibility of extension or transition to permanent employment if project workloads remain strong. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Edmonton, AB. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $41.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
