Middle School Coordinator
10 hours per week at $19 per hour
Job Summary:
The Wednesday Night Middle School Ministry Coordinator supports the Student Ministries Director by implementing a welcoming and spiritually meaningful midweek ministry for middle school students.
This role serves as the Director’s hands and feet on the ground, translating vision and weekly plans into a well-organized Wednesday night experience. It is primarily an implementation and coordination role, not a teaching position.
Most hours are worked on Wednesdays.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None. This position coordinates and provides direction to volunteer leaders during Wednesday programming but does not formally supervise employees.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Coordinates the weekly execution of Middle School Ministry on Wednesday evenings, including setup, program flow, transitions, and teardown.
Prepares ministry rooms, supplies, games, signage, technology, and other resources needed for an effective student experience.
Communicates weekly assignments, schedules, expectations, and last-minute updates to volunteer leaders in coordination with the Student Ministries Director and ministry staff.
Coordinates volunteer placement and coverage for check-in, welcome, games, worship, small groups, safety, and dismissal.
Leads volunteer huddles and provides clear direction so leaders understand the evening’s plan, responsibilities, and ministry priorities.
Creates a welcoming environment by engaging students, noticing new or disconnected students, and helping each student connect with an adult leader and peer community.
Oversees student check-in, transitions, behavior support, and parent pickup procedures in accordance with Central Church policies.
Implements the teaching plan, curriculum, and small-group materials provided by the Student Ministries Director and Middle School Ministry staff.
Supports games, activities, worship, teaching, and small groups as assigned; this role is not primarily responsible for weekly teaching.
Responds to routine operational issues during programming and promptly escalates safety, pastoral, behavioral, or parent concerns to the Student Ministries Director.
Maintains accurate attendance information and communicates follow-up needs, supply needs, facility concerns, and volunteer gaps to the appropriate staff member.
Participates in regular planning and evaluation with the Student Ministries Director to strengthen the Wednesday-night student and volunteer experience.
Assists with selected Middle School events, Unity Nights, leader trainings, and ministry initiatives as scheduled within the position’s weekly hours.
Follows and reinforces Central Church policies related to child safety, emergency response, confidentiality, facilities, and volunteer conduct.
Required Skills:
Ability to lead a room, coordinate volunteers, and carry out a ministry plan with clarity, energy, and composure.
Strong relational and communication skills with middle school students, parents, volunteers, and staff.
Ability to organize details, anticipate practical needs, solve problems, and follow through reliably.
Ability to create a welcoming, age-appropriate environment while maintaining healthy boundaries and consistent expectations.
Ability to work collaboratively, receive direction and feedback, and communicate concerns promptly.
Sound judgment and discretion when handling student, family, volunteer, and ministry information.
Alignment with Central Church’s mission, beliefs, ministry philosophy, and expectations for staff conduct.
Working knowledge of common communication, scheduling, presentation, and check-in tools, or the ability to learn them.
Required or Preferred Education and Experience:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Required: Experience serving or working with middle school students in a church, school, camp, youth organization, or comparable setting.
Required: Successful completion of Central Church’s background screening and child-safety requirements.
Preferred: One or more years of experience coordinating volunteers, student programming, events, or ministry environments.
Preferred: Coursework, training, or experience in ministry, education, youth development, leadership, or a related field.
Preferred: Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain certification.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to remain active and move throughout the ministry space for the duration of Wednesday evening programming.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and use stairs while setting up, leading, and cleaning up ministry activities.
Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds for supplies, equipment, tables, and program materials, with reasonable accommodation as applicable.
Ability to communicate clearly in active and sometimes noisy ministry environments.
Ability to work Wednesday evenings and occasional scheduled events or trainings.
