Job Summary The Music Director provides musical leadership for worship services and ministry events across Central Church. This role prepares, directs, and develops musicians, supports worship leaders, and helps create a musical environment that is prepared, flexible, and responsive. The Music Director works closely with the Worship staff to build flourishing teams and consistent musical systems and practices across venues, aligned with the mission and vision of Central Church.
Duties & Responsibilities Worship & Music Leadership • Prepare and oversee musical arrangements for worship gatherings and ministry events. • Provide music direction for worship environments including the Worship Center, Central Students, Celebrate Recovery, seasonal services, and other ministry events as assigned. • Communicate and direct the musical vision, arrangements, dynamics, transitions, and expectations clearly to musicians and platform teams in rehearsals and services. • Create a musical environment that is prepared, flexible, responsive, and supportive of the overall worship experience. • Collaborate with worship staff in planning and executing weekly services, maintaining unified musical systems, standards, and values across venues.
Music Technology & Production • Create and manage backing tracks, stems, click tracks, guide tracks, recorded music, and other playback elements. • Troubleshoot musical and technical issues related to playback, audio files, and live performance. • Organize music files, arrangements, charts, tracks, and other resources necessary for effective team preparation. Team Development & Volunteer Leadership • Recruit, train, equip, and develop volunteer musicians • Build healthy relationships with volunteers through clear communication, encouragement, and support. • Contribute actively to a flourishing worship culture and the ongoing development of musical teams.
Scheduling & Administration • Coordinate volunteer schedules across multiple venues using Planning Center, maintaining schedules typically 4–6 weeks in advance. • Participate in worship planning, debriefs, staff meetings, and special service planning . • Communicate schedules, expectations, and service information clearly with worship teams.
Resource & Space Oversight • Oversee the organization, storage, and appropriate use of musical instruments and equipment. • Maintain the readiness and organization of musical spaces, resources, and stage setups.
Required or Preferred Education & Experiences Required
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in worship ministry within a local church or faith- based organization.
• Proficiency on at least one instrument commonly used in contemporary worship and experience leading musicians in rehearsals and/or live services. • Experience with music technology, including playback systems, digital audio workstations, and music production software. • Proficiency in the Nashville Number System. • Ability to remain musically focused while maintaining awareness of the larger service environment, production flow, and ministry objectives.
Preferred • Previous experience serving as a Music Director in a church or live worship environment. • Experience with Ableton Live, Playback, Multitracks, or similar music production and playback platforms. • Formal education or training in music, worship ministry, music production, or a related field.
Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and move throughout rehearsals and worship services for extended periods. • Ability to lift, carry, and move musical equipment and instruments • Ability to work in environments with amplified music and typical live-service sound levels.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and special services as ministry schedules require. $18-20/hour
