Catering Assistant

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Catering Assistant / Kitchen Porter in Dublin.
We’re looking for a reliable, hands‑on Catering Assistant who will also cover Kitchen Porter duties to help our staff canteen run smoothly, safely and to a high standard. You’ll support food preparation and service, maintain excellent hygiene, and keep the back‑of‑house clean, organised, and compliant with Irish/EU food safety law.
What you'll be doing:
• Food preparation & service support: Assist with basic food preparation (e.g., washing, peeling, chopping), serving, replenishing counters, and safe hot/cold holding during service.
• Dishwashing/pot washing: Collect, wash, sanitise and store crockery, cutlery, utensils, pots and pans. Ensure constant availability during service.
• Cleaning & hygiene: Sweep/mop floors; clean/sanitise prep areas, sinks, equipment, fridges/freezers; complete daily/weekly deep cleans to schedule.
• Deliveries & storage: Receive, check, date‑label and store deliveries; maintain first-in-first out (FIFO) stock rotation and correct temperature controls.
• Allergen controls: Follow the canteen’s allergen procedures and ensure accurate written allergen information is available at point of presentation/sale for all non‑prepacked items.
• Waste & recycling: Segregate, remove, and store waste safely; maintain clean bin yards and back‑of‑house areas.
• Records & checks: Complete HACCP-related checks and logs (temps, cleaning, deliveries, corrective actions) as directed.
• Teamwork & safety: Use chemicals safely as trained; escalate maintenance issues; support broader catering tasks as needed.
The essential skills you will have when you apply:
• HACCP / Food Safety Training: Minimum: FSAI-aligned Food Safety training appropriate to duties (e.g., Level 1 within the first month; Level 2 if preparing/handling high‑risk foods).
• Practical kitchen experience in a canteen, café, hospitality, healthcare or similar back‑of‑house environment.
• Allergen awareness and ability to follow written allergen procedures for non‑prepacked food.
• Strong hygiene standards, attention to detail, and ability to work safely to SOPs/HACCP checks.
• Physical capability to stand for shifts, lift/move items, and handle a fast-paced service.
• Desirable: Manual Handling certificate; Basic First Aid; experience with temperature monitoring systems.
We operate a documented Food Safety Management System based on HACCP and maintain written allergen information for all non‑prepacked foods served. Successful candidates must complete induction training and participate in routine HACCP checks/records.
