About this role
Would you like to conduct research on preparedness against biological threats?We are offering a 3-year postdoctoral position in the project “Enhancing resilience against biological threats in the Nordic and Baltic countries”, funded by NordForsk (https://www.nordforsk.org/projects/enhancing-resilience-against-biological-threats-nordic-and-baltic-countries). The project will run from 2026 to 2029.Biological threats, whether natural or deliberate, can have serious consequences for health, society and economy. The emergence of new biotechnology, synthetic biology and artificial intelligence offers great opportunities, but also increases the risk of misuse.The main goal of the project is to strengthen preparedness against biological threats in the Nordic and Baltic countries by:Improving the ability to detect biological threatsDevelop frameworks for assessing risks related to synthetic biology and dual-use technologiesRaising awareness in academia about risks associated with misuse of dual-use technologiesStrengthening capacity and collaboration on risk communication to prevent misinformation and disinformationThe position is affiliated with the Department of Infection Control and Preparedness at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Oslo. The position will involve some travelling, including shorter research stays within the Nordic region.
