About this role

About The Role FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Project Manager to support the Electric Safety Delivery Programme for an end client within the Transport sector. This is initially a 7 month contract with very good prospects to extend and will be an in office role based in Milton Keynes.

This role will support the Head of Engineering / Technical Services in coordinating and managing the First Funding Period (FFP) business planning activities, ensuring effective governance, stakeholder engagement, and delivery against challenging timelines. This is a highly visible role working across senior stakeholder groups. The successful candidate will be confident managing competing priorities, maintaining continuity across evolving plans, and driving effective collaboration across multiple directorates.

Responsibilities

Coordinate planning activities and associated deliverables across the programmeManage, organise, and maintain planning documentation and records within SharePoint and other project management toolsPlan, facilitate, and coordinate workshops, meetings, and planning sessions, ensuring outputs, actions, and decisions are effectively captured and communicatedTrack and manage queries, decisions, responses, and dependencies relating to FFP activities across multiple stakeholder groupsMaintain version control and continuity of planning information as requirements, assumptions, and priorities evolveSupport the development and management of the Technical Authority business plan, ensuring deadlines and governance requirements are metMonitor and manage financial information to support planning, forecasting, and decision-making activitiesProduce clear reporting, status updates, and progress tracking for senior stakeholdersBuild strong working relationships across Technical Authority teams and wider end client directoratesIdentify risks, issues, and planning challenges, escalating and driving resolution where requiredSupport programme governance activities and ensure information is collated accurately and in a timely manner About You Proven experience as a Project Manager within a complex project environmentExperience coordinating large-scale business planning or strategic planning activitiesStrong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and competing prioritiesExperience facilitating workshops, meetings, and stakeholder engagement activitiesExcellent document management, version control, and record-keeping skillsStrong stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to engage senior leaders and challenge constructively when requiredExperience managing and tracking actions, decisions, and dependencies across multiple teamsStrong communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbalExperience working under tight deadlines and delivering high-quality outputs in a fast-paced environmentSelf-sufficient and proactive approach, with the confidence to ask the right questions and drive activities forward Nice to Have

Experience of developing or contributing to business plans within a large organisationPrevious experience working within Rail or wider Transport industriesKnowledge of funding period planning, portfolio planning, or strategic programme deliveryExperience managing financial information, budgets, or forecasting activitiesStrong SharePoint administration and document control experienceUnderstanding of engineering governance, technical authority functions, or infrastructure delivery programmesExperience navigating complex stakeholder environments with political or organisational sensitivities Qualifications

Degree or equivalent qualification in Project Management, Business Management, Engineering, or a related disciplineProfessional project management qualification such as PRINCE2, APM PMQ, or equivalent (desirable)Experience working within infrastructure, transportation, engineering, or regulated environmentDemonstrable experience supporting complex programmes with multiple stakeholders and governance requirementsStrong understanding of project planning, business planning, and programme coordination principles This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organised and stakeholder-focused Project Manager to contribute to a strategically important programme supporting the safe and effective future operation of part of the UK's rail infrastructure.
