Job Requirements Under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, the Patient Care Technician I delivers direct patient care, including obtaining vital signs, assessing surgical dressings, assisting with activities of daily living, performing phlebotomy, and collecting specimen samples. This position requires careful observation and effective communication of patient status to identify needs and ensure appropriate care, working collaboratively within the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Key responsibilities encompass managing patient testing and care based on clinical assessments, facilitating admissions, transfers, and discharges, ensuring patient safety and comfort, maintaining a clean and safe patient environment, providing wound care and orthopedic device management, monitoring dietary intake and output, and promptly responding to patient alarms. The technician strictly follows safety protocols, reports potential risks and adverse events, employs safe body mechanics, and supports efficient patient flow, while performing additional duties as assigned.
Work Experience Candidates must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, possess current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA), and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Although prior experience is not mandatory, direct patient care experience within a healthcare setting is preferred. Successful candidates will exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrate the ability to foster effective interpersonal relationships and collaborate within a team, and possess the capacity to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities under pressure. Furthermore, candidates should be proficient in utilizing computer systems, adept at accurately obtaining and documenting blood glucose results, and capable of performing delegated nursing tasks with respect for the age, culture, ethnicity, spirituality, and individual diagnostic requirements of patients.
