Job Requirements
The University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to serve as an APP Program Manager within a designated service line. Under limited supervision, the APP Program Manager provides clinical and operational leadership for a team of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. This role works collaboratively with medical, nursing, administrative, and quality leadership to support the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care. The APP Program Manager will play a key role in APP program development, staff development, quality improvement, patient outcomes, operational efficiency, and patient satisfaction. Leadership & Program Development
• Provide clinical leadership and oversight for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants within designated service lines. • Collaborate with the Director of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, Medical Director, and PCS Director to develop, support, and manage the APP team. • Participate in program development initiatives designed to improve patient care, patient throughput, early discharge, patient satisfaction, and staff engagement. • Facilitate initiatives that support organizational and service-line goals. • Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance patient satisfaction. • Serve as a liaison among APPs, nursing, medical staff, Quality Management, and other key stakeholders. Clinical Quality & Patient Care
• Monitor clinical competency, documentation, and patient outcomes for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. • Collaborate with Quality Management in the development and implementation of clinical practices and quality improvement initiatives. • Lead discussions related to quality outcomes, patient feedback, and opportunities for improvement. • Develop and implement action plans to improve quality, safety, and patient care. • Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to patient care in accordance with applicable nursing, medical, and organizational standards. • Serve as a clinical resource and problem-solver for APP staff. • Promote patient safety and participate in hospital, department, and unit safety initiatives. Staff Development & Performance Management
• Provide clinical supervision, coaching, mentoring, and support to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants. • Assist with interviewing and recommending candidates for APP positions. • Support the orientation and onboarding of new APPs. • Identify staff learning needs and develop educational programs, in-services, and teaching materials. • Promote professional development and continued growth among APP staff. • Conduct annual performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and coaching. • Address performance concerns and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary. • Facilitate team building and initiatives that promote employee engagement, productivity, and satisfaction. Patient Safety
• Promote a culture of safety and accountability. • Take appropriate action to address identified patient safety risks. • Report adverse events and near misses through established processes. • Identify potential risks related to processes, procedures, and equipment and communicate concerns to appropriate leadership. • Support implementation of patient safety and quality improvement initiatives. Minimum Qualifications
• Master's degree with completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. • Current Maryland licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. • National certification appropriate to the candidate's discipline and specialty. • Minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. • Previous leadership, lead APP, or supervisory experience is preferred.
