Job Requirements Under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, the Patient Care Technician I delivers direct patient care, including obtaining vital signs, assessing surgical dressings, assisting with activities of daily living, performing phlebotomy, and collecting specimen samples. This position requires vigilant observation and effective communication of patient status to identify needs and ensure appropriate care delivery, while collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to uphold patient safety and comfort. Additional responsibilities encompass supporting admissions, transfers, and discharges, maintaining patient environments and supplies, providing wound care and orthopedic device management, monitoring blood glucose levels, and promptly responding to patient alarms. The technician strictly follows safety protocols, facilitates efficient patient flow, and undertakes other duties as assigned in a full-time capacity.

Work Experience Candidates for the Patient Care Technician I position must hold a high school diploma or equivalent, current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA), and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Although prior experience is not mandatory, direct patient care experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. Successful candidates will exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills, the ability to foster effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork, and the capability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities under pressure. Additionally, candidates should be proficient in utilizing computer systems, adept at obtaining accurate blood glucose measurements with proper documentation, and competent in performing delegated nursing tasks with respect for the diverse age, cultural, ethnic, spiritual, and individual diagnostic needs of patients.
