Archival Associate - TTU - Sowell Collection
Position Description: This paraprofessional position holds responsibilities that may involve supervision of a work unit and/or the undertaking of specialized work requiring a high level of expertise, such as cataloging or processing of manuscript collections. Independent judgment and a comprehensive knowledge of tasks are used to accomplish the mission of the unit. Work is performed under general supervision within established policies with latitude for independent judgment. Evaluation is based upon a review of completed work and overall results obtained.
Major/Essential Functions: • Processes Sowell Collection manuscript collections. • Creates detailed and accurate finding aids for Sowell Collection manuscript collections using Excel and Word. • Assists with Sowell Collection events (e.g., readings, conferences) and special projects (e.g., exhibits). • Shelves newly cataloged books and maintains Sowell Collection book stacks. • Prepares detailed and accurate monthly and annual reports on work accomplished. • Assists with hiring, training, and supervision of student assistants.
Preferred Qualifications: • Coursework or degree in English. • Knowledge of the literature of place, environment, and community. • Familiarity with the work of Sowell Collection writers. • Experience with archival processes and documentation. • Knowledge of conservation/preservation procedures for different types of archival material.
Required Qualifications: Bachelors' degree in related field and one-year related experience; knowledge and competencies of Microsoft Office. Relevant specialized work experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis. Additional job-related education may substitute for required experience on a year for year basis. Ability to learn and work with computer applications unique to libraries or archives.

Pay Statement: Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
