Main duties of the job

To convey patients by wheelchair, bed, trolley, etc, between wards and departments on the hospital site and ensure the means of transportation is in a safe, working order and to report any defects in line with current procedures.

Please note the successful post holder should ideally have a full UK Driving Licence.

Job description Job responsibilities

To deliver and collect clinical & non clinical items, including post, beds, trolleys, wheelchairs, medical gases, pathology specimens, laundry, waste, furniture; responding to any ad-hoc requests and ensuring procedures are followed.

To convey deceased patients to the mortuary and to do so in a dignified manner, using the appropriate equipment, also on request to place deceased patients within the viewing room (this will include viewings for babies, and young children) in accordance with procedures, and return to storage area on request. They are the first point of contact for the undertakers out of hours.

To work to the roster prepared by the Portering Manager covering 24 hours a day, 7 days per week including bank holidays.

To undertake job tasks via the handheld Trust system in a timely and efficient manner.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

NVQ Level 2 Support Services or good level of general education & equivalent level of working experience

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge of good health and safety practice. Knowledge of data protection

Experience Essential

Experience of working as part of a team Proven experience working in health service or caring / customer facing environment

Skills Essential

Basic IT Skills The ability to navigate the portering database Good communication Skills

Values Based Question Essential
