About the Department

Ashesi’s Business Administration Department teaches and equips students with the skills, ethics, and entrepreneurial mindset to lead and innovate in Africa’s fast-changing economy. Through a rigorous curriculum blending leadership, technology, and liberal arts, students learn to build sustainable enterprises, drive impact across sectors, and solve real-world challenges.

The Department delivers a comprehensive understanding of business principles and practices, preparing students for leadership roles in various sectors. Emphasizes is laid on the fundamentals of business while integrating new trends and technological advances that are transforming the global economy. The department ensures that its graduates are well-versed in both theoretical and practical aspects of business management

About the Role

The Lecturer will deliver practical, engaging, and academically rigorous instruction that enables students to understand and apply financial information in managerial decision-making. The course is expected to cover areas such as financial statement interpretation, financial planning and budgeting, cost analysis, cost-volume-profit analysis, valuation concepts and applications, investment appraisal, financing decisions, and the application of financial information to business strategy.

As a part-time member of the faculty, the successful candidate will also be expected to participate in relevant departmental activities and, where appropriate, collaborate with full-time faculty members on research and scholarly projects.

An experienced academic or practitioner with strong knowledge of both accounting and finance and the ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to learners who may not have specialized backgrounds in these disciplines.

Reports to: Head of Department or designated Programme/Course Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Course Delivery

• Teach the Finance for Non-Finance Managers course in accordance with the approved course objectives and curriculum.

• Explain accounting and financial concepts in a clear, practical, and accessible manner to students without specialised finance or accounting backgrounds.

• Prepare and update course syllabi, teaching materials, case studies, exercises, and other learning resources.

• Integrate practical examples, contemporary business issues, technology, and experiential learning activities into course delivery.

• Develop and administer assignments, examinations, projects, and other forms of assessment.

• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students to support their academic development.

• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assessment, progression, and performance.

• Be reasonably available to provide academic guidance and consultation to students during the period of the appointment.

Curriculum and Academic Quality

• Ensure that course content reflects current developments and professional practices in accounting, finance, and managerial decision-making.

• Contribute to periodic reviews and improvements of the course curriculum and teaching materials.

• Participate in course coordination, moderation, quality assurance, and other academic processes associated with the course.

• Comply with Ashesi University’s academic policies, teaching standards, assessment procedures, and Honour Code.

Research and Scholarship

• Collaborate, where appropriate, with full-time faculty members on research projects, academic publications, case studies, conference papers, or other scholarly activities.

• Contribute relevant professional or industry insights to collaborative research and knowledge-development initiatives.

• Support student research, applied projects, or capstone activities where such support is relevant to the course or the adjunct faculty member’s expertise.

Departmental and Industry Engagement

• Participate in relevant departmental meetings, orientation sessions, faculty development activities, and course-planning discussions.

• Contribute to initiatives that strengthen the teaching of accounting and finance within the Department.

• Support appropriate engagement with industry professionals, professional bodies, and other external stakeholders.

• Facilitate the use of practical business cases, guest speakers, and industry-based learning opportunities where feasible.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must possess one of the following academic qualifications:

• A PhD in Accounting, with demonstrated knowledge, competence, teaching experience, or professional expertise in finance; or

• A PhD in Finance, with demonstrated knowledge, competence, teaching experience, or professional expertise in accounting.

In addition, applicants should demonstrate:

• Relevant teaching experience at the tertiary or professional level.

• Strong knowledge of financial and management accounting, corporate finance, financial analysis, budgeting, and investment decision-making.

• The ability to teach financial concepts effectively to learners without specialized accounting or finance backgrounds.

• Evidence of effective and engaging teaching methods.

• The ability to use case studies, practical exercises, digital tools, and other learner-centered teaching approaches.

• Willingness and ability to work collaboratively with full-time faculty members.

• Professional integrity and commitment to Ashesi University’s mission and values.

Professional qualifications in accounting or finance, along with relevant managerial, consulting, or industry experience, would be an advantage.
