Job Description - Senior Instrumentation & Control (I&C) Engineer Title: Senior Instrumentation & Control Engineer Company: KBR - Inhouse Engineering Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE - KBR Office Key Consideration: Preference will be given to candidates holding valid OPITO-approved T-BOSIET/BOSIET and H₂S certifications with a minimum validity of six months. The selected candidate will be required to travel ADNOC offshore on a rotational basis to conduct site surveys, support brownfield assessments, verify existing installations, and obtain project-specific engineering data necessary for design and execution.

Job Purpose

• Provide technical leadership for I&C design during FEED and detailed engineering phases in oil & gas projects. • Define I&C design basis, standards, and deliverables to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective solutions. • Oversee integration with process, electrical, and multi-discipline interfaces; ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. • Mentor engineers, drive quality and schedule adherence, and ensure robust instrumentation & control deliverables across the project phases.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage I&C engineering design and implementation activities across all project phases, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, regulatory requirements, and engineering best practices. • Participate in offshore and onshore site visits for data collection, field verification, condition assessments, and preparation of comprehensive site survey reports. • Develop, review, and maintain I&C engineering deliverables including instrument datasheets, instrument index, I/O schedules, control narratives, Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS), RFQs, TBEs, site survey scopes of work, and control system modification scopes of work. • Review and provide technical input to engineering drawings including wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, installation details, instrument location layouts, hook-up drawings, control room layouts, and level sketch diagrams. • Coordinate and participate in OEM control system adequacy assessments, review study findings, and approve adequacy survey reports to ensure technical compliance and suitability. • Perform and independently review engineering calculations and sizing activities for control valves, flow elements, thermowells, relief valves, and other instrumentation equipment, as applicable. • Prepare technical specifications and procurement documentation for I&C systems and equipment and provide post-award vendor support to ensure timely submission and approval of vendor engineering deliverables in accordance with contractual requirements. • Coordinate effectively with process, mechanical, piping, electrical, telecommunications, and other disciplines to achieve integrated and optimized engineering solutions. • Participate in process safety studies including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and related risk assessments, ensuring incorporation of recommendations into engineering design deliverables. • Participate in control system-related workshops and studies, including CHAZOP, Alarm Management, and Cybersecurity assessments, ensuring compliance with operational and cybersecurity requirements. • Participate in multidisciplinary design reviews including process reviews, plot plan reviews, 3D model reviews, constructability reviews, and model validation activities. • Interface with clients, vendors, licensors, and third-party stakeholders to ensure full compliance with project requirements and timely resolution of technical issues. • Support preparation, monitoring, and control of discipline budgets, schedules, resource plans, and project execution strategies to achieve key project milestones. • Ensure compliance with applicable international and regional standards, including IEC, API, ISA, IEEE, NFPA, and relevant oil and gas industry codes and practices. • Ensure discipline compliance with QA/QC procedures covering engineering deliverables, drafting standards, instrument datasheets, calibration requirements, and procurement documentation. • Maintain awareness of emerging I&C technologies, industry innovations, and digitalization initiatives, and recommend value-engineering opportunities to improve project performance and lifecycle efficiency.

Experience

• Minimum 12 years of overall experience, including at least 8 years of dedicated Instrumentation & Control design engineering experience within the oil and gas industry, covering both onshore and offshore facilities in the Middle East. • ADNOC EPC and/or PMC project experience will be considered a distinct advantage. • Demonstrated track record in delivering both greenfield and brownfield projects across offshore and onshore developments. • Strong working knowledge of ADNOC Group engineering standards, technical specifications, project execution requirements, and best practices. • Proven experience across FEED, Detailed Engineering, EPC, PMC, Construction, Pre-commissioning, and Commissioning project phases. • Extensive exposure to offshore production facilities, wellhead platforms, central processing facilities, utilities, and associated infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation or Electronics & Communication Engineering, or equivalent. • Professional certifications in Instrumentation, Automation, Functional Safety, or related areas (e.g., ISA, TUV FSE, EXIDA, IEC certifications) will be considered an advantage.

Technical Skills

• Comprehensive knowledge and practical experience in the design and implementation of Instrumentation & Control Systems, including Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). • Strong expertise in hazardous area classification, equipment selection, certification requirements (IECEx/ATEX), and installation practices for classified locations. • Thorough understanding of international standards and codes including API, IEC, ISA, ISO, IEEE, NFPA, NACE, BS EN, and operator-specific standards such as ADNOC and other major operators. • Strong technical competency in DCS, ESD, FGS, PLC, RTU, SCADA, telecommunications interfaces, and field instrumentation systems. • Sound understanding of FEED and Detailed Engineering deliverables, Management of Change (MOC) processes, document control requirements, and project execution methodologies. • Proficiency in industry-standard engineering software and applications including AVEVA Instrumentation, SPI, INSTRUCALC, and other relevant I&C design tools. • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and engineering decision-making capabilities. • Strong leadership, communication, stakeholder management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
