Business Unit Service is at the forefront of delivering advanced digital and outcome‑based service solutions worldwide. Our Service R&D organization develops next‑generation digital service solutions that leverage IoT, cloud platforms, data, and AI to enable long‑term asset performance, reliability, and operational excellence across the energy and industrial domain.
We are looking for a Senior R&D Project Manager with strong software development experience to lead strategic initiatives across BU Service R&D portfolio.
This position combines project leadership with deep understanding of modern software development and digital platforms. You will lead multidisciplinary teams delivering cloud-native applications, AI-enabled solutions, data platforms, digital service experiences, and integrated software ecosystems that support future service business models.
You will work closely with Hitachi Energy researchers, software architects, product managers, UX teams, AI specialists, data engineers, cybersecurity experts, and external development partners to transform ideas into scalable customer-facing and internal digital solutions.
How You’ll Make an Impact
• Lead complex software and digital solution development projects from concept through production release.
• Drive agile and hybrid project delivery models across globally distributed teams.
• Manage project scope, planning, budgets, resources, risks, architecture dependencies, and release roadmaps.
• Coordinate internal development teams and external software engineering partners.
• Ensure alignment between business objectives, product strategy, technical architecture, and delivery execution.
• Support development of digital platforms, AI-enabled capabilities, data integration solutions, reporting systems, and cloud services.
• Collaborate with architects and development teams on technical planning, estimation, release management, and lifecycle governance.
• Drive solution quality through validation, verification, testing, cybersecurity, and configuration management practices.
• Establish transparent reporting and decision-making processes for executive stakeholders.
• Contribute to scaling modern software engineering practices within BU Service R&D
Your Background
• University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Proven experience managing software development projects or digital product development programs.
• Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, Agile methodologies, DevOps, CI/CD, and release management.
• Experience working with cloud platforms, enterprise software, data platforms, AI/analytics solutions, or IoT ecosystems.
• Familiarity with tools such as Azure DevOps, Jira, Git-based development workflows, backlog management, and product roadmaps.
• Ability to communicate effectively with software architects, developers, and business stakeholders alike.
• Experience managing external software suppliers and development partners is highly desirable.
• Understanding of cybersecurity, software quality assurance, and validation processes is an advantage.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
• Fluent in English, written and spoken.
Preferred Experience
• SaaS, cloud-native, AI, data platform, digital twin, predictive analytics, industrial IoT, or energy technology solutions.
• Experience leading geographically distributed software teams.
• Experience in energy, industrial automation, asset management, utilities, or digital services industries.
